Summary: When faced with the horrible, damning curse, she did the only thing she could think of. A life for a life.
Regina was a fighter, always had been. She held the heart of the Resilient One and carried herself as Queen whether it be evil or not. She planned meticulously or not at all. She felt so deeply, even if she didn't have the beating organ within her chest. She never gave up, but only because she refused to.
So when faced with the horrible, damning curse, she did the only thing she could think of.
A life for a life.
She saved her baby. And when her daughter was born, all squalling and screaming, a fighter just like her and as stubborn as the other female who mothered her, her first breath came with Regina's last.
Emma named her Charlotte but she grew up to like Charlie. All dark hair and dark eyes, with a hot-headed temper and a stubbornness like no other. She wore dresses and played in the mud at the stables with boots belonging to Charming that went to her hips.
Blue was her favourite colour but her magic was purple and she used it to make Henry's spoon disappear from his cereal or to pack her bag for school. She was powerful, the daughter of the Saviour and Evil Queen; the Fairest of them All.
When Emma arrived home from work on a Saturday evening she found apple turnovers in the oven and muddy footprints by the door. She located Henry in the study, focusing on college courses (as he often did these days) and made her way up to her bedroom where she spotted the six year old.
Sat, pressed with her hands to the mirror that had been Regina's favourite, Emma watched as Charlie spoke animatedly and poked the glass like it was nothing but a pool of water.
"Whatcha doing there, kiddo?" She asked, amused and curious all at once.
Charlie just turned her head, grinning. "Talking to Mama."
And then it hit her, True Love can transcend any realm and break any curse.
