Gabriel's Vengence *Disclaimer*- This story would change most of the rest of the movie after this scene.

Gabriel rode away from the village. He wasn't going back to the Spaish mission. He wasn't going to check on his family. He was going to get Tavington, leaving Benjamin alone with the rest. The war had hit home a second time after the redcoats burned down the church. His wife and friends... all dead. He was followed by several others, including the Reverand. They came to the base of a hill and stopped. The redcoats were resting by a brook on the other side. "I'm going down there," Gabriel said. The others looked at him. "None of you have to come. You can go back and join the others. This is my battle right now." With that, he rode to the top of the hill. The rest followed him.

About the same time, Benjamin had learned of Gabriel's departure. He and the platoon rushed out immediately. As they went, they passed a house burning down. It was yet another horrifying sight that this war brought. Benjamin was anxious, because this might be the last time he would see Gabriel.

Gabriel and his team were on the ground fighting now. He had just stabbed an officer to death, and now was on to Tavington. He came up behind the Reverand just as he was shot. The Reverand threw up his musket, and Gabriel caught it. He had one shot. Tavington had just loaded his pistol. He aimed it at Gabriel just as the musket fired. Tavington was down. Gabriel thought about using his knife to finish the job. No, too risky, he thought. He loaded his pistol.... a shot right in Tavington's forehead. "That's for my wife," he whispered angrily. He bent down to get Tavington's sword. He raised it in the air. A swift gust of wind came with Gabriel's swing, taking off Tavington's head with one blow. "That's for Thomas," he whispered again. The sight of a severed head made him nauseated. He staggered to a nearby tree. He held himself up on it, and vomited. Benjamin and the platoon came down the hill at that moment. Benjamin jumped off his horse and ran to Gabriel. "Are you alright?" he asked frantically. "Yes.. yes.." Gabriel said in broken words. He sat down against the tree to catch his breath. Benjamin didn't know if Gabriel was in trauma or in mourning for the people in the village. He turned to the men, looked around at the dead bodies. "This war isn't over yet. I can't say when it will be, if ever. But I do know one thing. I will fight for my country's freedom. I will fight in honor, not in memory, of my son and friends. If we do this we are certain to have our freedom." He looked again at Gabriel, who was calming down. "My son Thomas will live on as long as I fight for our cause, and hold it close long after we have our victory." The men thought about what he had just said. Then they got off their horse to bury the bodies. About sunset, they rode back to the Spanish mission, inspired and encouraged.
