Flame Guardian
Flames leapt before them. Scarlet, whirling, dancing. The silhouette of a woman dancing flickered between the embers, her body twisting with an exotic beat to the music while the sound of chains rattled in the distance.
I was a slave since the beginning
She turned around to reveal shackles attached to her hands and feet
A child of destiny
Laughter mingled with the metal ringing
A pawn of fate
Blood spilled from where the chains had cut her
Kicked down every time
Her back arched into the fire
But I've always defied death
Her head was thrown forward and hair fell over her face
I gave up my heart
She spun around wildly
Been robbed of my innocence
Knelt on the floor
Given up everything
Arms raised above her head, the chains sounded again
Wore the mask of a hero
She stood
A friend
Beginning to dance in time to both chains and fire
A lover
She spun the chains around her as she leapt and fell
I kept faith
She spun around slowly
I forgave my heart
Rising silently, she weaved through the flames effortlessly
Now I learn to hope
Laughter rang again through the air
My feats were my own
She threw her head back
I played with fire, and never burned
The flames licked at her chains
No one holds me down
The chains glowed a fiery red
I hold fate in my palm
The metal sagged while she danced into the flames once more
Destiny is my guardian
The fire spat out violently
Death is a vision
Her feet barely brushed the ground
Others see me
She turned around carefully
Loved me, hated me
The chains seemed to light on fire
Now they watch
She raised her arms above her head
I'm not a hero
The chains cracked
I'm not a witch
They fell to the ground
They are lost in rapture of my true form
The fires now seemed to swirl in beat with her step
Myself
