Valentine's Day
I'd never seen so many flowers in one office. Every female worker at Quantico and several of the male ones had roses or carnations sitting on their desks. Those that didn't have flowers had balloons or chocolates decorating their work spaces. It was like the office had been bathed in pink and red. Spirits were high in the entire office; it's hard to have a bad day when you have proof on your desk that someone somewhere loves you. Morgan was popping chocolates like they were going extinct; it looked like at least three different women had sent him valentines. Prentiss was all smiles as she breathed in the scent of roses from the vase on her desk; she refused to say who sent them. Garcia's lair was awash in flowers from both Kevin and Morgan. Rossi had received balloons to his disbelief from his latest "female acquaintance" as he liked to call her; even Hotch had received a single pink carnation from Jack, with a little help from Jessica. As I looked around I noticed that the only person in the room that didn't receive a valentine was me.
It didn't really bother me until Garcia noticed my empty desk. She had immediately gotten upset and without really meaning to she ended up bringing a lot of attention to my lack of gifts. When I went to the bathroom I overheard her in her office calling flower shops trying to find one that still had flowers but the pickings are pretty slim near closing on Valentine's Day. Then she started carrying flowers from her office which I politely carried back. It's hard for Garcia to enjoy something if she feels someone else is doing without. It took a great deal of effort to make her see that I was okay with it and that while I didn't get flowers I still got to enjoy the chocolates and cookies that everyone shared with me. The gifts may not have had my name on them but I got to enjoy them too. This seemed to appease her somewhat.
It was fifteen minutes until five when the delivery man came in with a package. I barely even glanced at him but was surprised when I heard him say "package for Spencer Reid."
I felt the whole room go quiet as I turned and said, "Uh, that's me."
I don't know what is worse, not getting a gift or having the entire office watch as you opened one. I looked at Garcia and she shook her head telling me it wasn't her that sent this last minute present. There wasn't a card on the outside just a note with my name so I slowly opened it. I know I said I was okay with never getting a valentine gift but I couldn't stop the shudder of excitement that ran through me as I pulled back the lid on the box.
"COFFEE!" I said with a smile. "Someone sent me coffee."
I looked up to see the smiles on Garcia, Morgan, Prentiss, Rossi and Hotch as they surrounded my desk.
"Who's it from?" Morgan asked.
I looked in the bottom of the box and found a card but hesitated before opening it.
Sensing my reluctance everyone backed up and waited. I opened the card and smiled.
"Happy Valentine's Day to My Godfather, Love Henry."
Thanks JJ.
