-Sounds of Nothing-

A collection of NANA ficlets by fightingcomet

Please excuse my minimal knowledge of music- I play no instruments competently, and have never composed music. Sad, I know...

Oh, and I own nothing.

- 1 - Simple Starting Chords

( N O B U X H A C H I )

Starting out simple. That's how most things went with him.

Lithe fingers strummed the first few strings of the guitar with a lazy sweep, producing a chord so simple a beginner could master it in a day. It mostly spawned from boredom, waiting for the others to arrive, but it was also just one of those things he did when he felt thoughtful. Some would just account it to a nervous tic, but it wasn't something he showed to the masses. It was just a part of him and his music. Simple, with an underlying complexity that only appeared to those who knew where to look.

That's how most of his music began- one simple chord as the base, holding all the complex layers of chord progressions together to form a beautiful piece that could be appreciated as is or with other instruments accompanying it.

Starting out simple. That's how most things went with him.

The door to the practice room creaked open, his fellow band members and friends entering, laughing, exchanging greetings with him as they began to set up. The only one without a musical spot in the band sat near the small stage, still giggling at the past conversation as she straightened her skirt. She glanced at him and gave a small wave as he took his spot on stage. He smiled back as the song began and he started to play for his favorite audience member.

That's how most things went with him. Starting out with something as simple as a smile, and then progressing into something much more complex.

But it was those simple things that held it all together.

I wrote this late at night, so please note me with any errors. Otherwise, please enjoy, and reviews are always lovely!
