Once upon a time in a place not very far,
Harry Potter awoke with a lightning bolt scar.
His parents were gone, were murdered by night
By an evil Dark Wizard who caused naught but fright.
The next thing he knew, he was in a strange house,
Where the family who lived there liked him less than a mouse.

He was forced to sleep in a cupboard under the stairs,
Where his dreams were disrupted by eerie nightmares
In which all he could see was a blast of green light,
And feel a pain on his forehead. He wished that he might
Know what it all meant, for he hadn't a clue
About the wizard, the prophecy, or the wand made of yew.

'Til a letter arrived that caused a commotion,
And Mr. Dursley to move them to a shack in the ocean.
Then later that night, Harry's birthday, you see,
A strange man arrived, a Keeper of Keys,
From Hogwarts, a school of magic and spells—
A school that Harry could attend as well.

One look at Harry's expression of shock
Led Hagrid to know he and Dursley needed to talk.
He ranted and raved at the self-centered Muggle,
'Til under the anger Dursley started to struggle.
To Diagon Alley Hagrid then took Harry,
Who was still very puzzled and still very wary.

Harry's past Hagrid then began to explain,
'Bout his parents, and Voldemort, and his unknown fame.
Then they got him his owl, his books, and his wand,
And went to the train station, but then Hagrid was gone.
'Platform nine and three-quarters' his train ticket read,
"Ha! There isn't such platform," the security guard said.

Platforms nine and ten were the only two there,
Then he noticed a family, all with red hair,
Talking of 'Muggles' and 'Hogwarts,' "Excuse me," he said,
"Can you show me the platform?" "Of course, just watch Fred."
The older boy then walked straight at the wall,
And went right through as though it weren't there at all.

At the look of surprise Harry's face did don
The witch said, "It's easy. By the way, this is Ron."
And this is how Harry met his best friend,
Who stuck with him all the way through to the end.
Hermione, the smartest young witch of her age,
Joined the pair after from a troll she was saved.

Together at Hogwarts the trio did show
That friendship and bravery outweigh all that you know,
And love is much stronger than power and force.
All it would have taken is a little remorse
On Voldemort's part, but he wouldn't give in,
So ultimately in this way Harry did win.

With the help of his mentors, his teachers, his friends,
Harry Potter arose triumphant in the end.
With Voldemort gone, the war was now ended,
And life in the wizarding world was now mended.
A message of love Harry did give,
And happily ever after he and his friends did live.
