Ephraim's POV

I check the narrow hallway. There are no monsters there. I walk down the tightly closed hallway with Ike behind me.

The lack of monsters bothers me; they would have heard us coming and they would attack us.

"Ugh…" I muttered, "I have a bad feeling about this hallway…" Ike nodded.

Suddenly, we hear a strange noise…a noise that sounds like thunder. "Huh?" I said, glancing around to find the source of the sound.

Then, a bolt of light shoots down the hallway…heading straight to me! My life flashes before my eyes when Ike shouts, "Watch out!" He grabbed me and throws me and himself into the wall, then…

"AUUGH!"

I freeze when Ike cries out in pain. When the bolt of light has passed, I look at Ike. He is kneeling on the ground, holding his elbow. I see blood seeping between his fingers where he is holding his elbow.

"Ike!" I cried, kneeling down to his level, "Are you all right?!"

"Urgh…" Ike groans, "I-I'm fine, Ephraim."

He glances at me, apparently checking on me to see if I was injured.

"Are you hurt?" Ike asks. I shake my head 'no'. "I'm fine, just a little shaken up."

I stare at Ike's injury, and I start to feel guilty. He's hurt just to protect me…

"Ike, you're bleeding…" I point out.

He glances at his elbow for a brief second and he shakes his head. "I'm fine," he said, "I'll hea—" When he tries to get up by using his injured arm, he cries out in pain and he quickly kneels back down. My guilt grows more when this happened.

"Are you OK?" I ask.

"M-my arm's broke…" Ike answers. He mutters something that I didn't hear. "This is my sword arm…" He says out loud, "I can't fight like this!"

My guilt then grows intense. Not only Ike is injured on the elbow, his sword arm is now broken. Shaking off my guilt, I decide to help him.

Grabbing my bag, I get closer to him and I check his elbow.

"What are you doing?" He asks.

"I'm trying to help you." I answer.

"Ephraim, don't worry about me. I'll be fine."

"But your arm's broken, and you're bleeding heavily!"

"Ephraim, I said—"

"Ike, listen to me. You saved my life, and you ended up getting hurt. It pains me that you got hurt because of me, so I'm helping you."

Silence reigned for a few seconds until Ike said, "All right."

I fumble in my bag and I pull out a Vulnerary. I grab Ike's arm and he wince in pain.

"This will sting a little…" I say as I squeeze out the Vulnerary's contents on his elbow. Ike sucks in his breath to brace the pain, and I begin to feel guilty that I am not gentle enough.

Grabbing my bag, I pull out a long cloth and I tie his wound and arm. "There." I said, closing my bag.

Ike looks at his arm and he mutters a "thanks."

I then notice that he isn't looking at me in the eyes. "Ike?" I ask. I saw his face blushing. "Ike?" I repeat.

"Hm?" Ike responds, still blushing.

"Are you OK?" I ask.

"Yeah…" He said, "It's just that…I feel comfortable around you…"

I stare at him. I begin to blush. "You—you really think so…?"

"Yeah…" Ike glances at me and smiles. "Thank you for being there for me."

I smile. "I should thank you…you saved my life."

"It's nothing…"

Ike and I then realize that our hands are touching. I pull my hand away from him and I blush. "S-sorry…" I mumble.

We then hear a disturbing roar. The monsters are coming.

I grab my lance and I look at Ike. "Are you able to fight?" I ask.

Ike nods. "Yeah," He grabs his sword with his uninjured arm, "I can fight with my weaker arm."

We then rush into battle.

Yeah…just something I whipped up. :p
