Awake by asesina
Disclaimer: I don't own TVD.
a/n: just a little scene with Katherine waking up after becoming human. I might do a second chapter where she meets Elena again. I'm not sure.
I hope you like it!

Thud.
Thud.
THUD.
What on earth was that infernally repetitive noise?
Thud.
Katherine's eyes flew open. She inhaled sharply and was immediately aware of a searing pain in her esophagus.
"Elena," she growled.
The word came out as a weak, gurgling whisper, and her hands flew to her throat.
"No," Katherine whispered.
That noise-
It couldn't be.
Katherine lifted a trembling hand to her ear, delicately turning her wrist inward, and there it was-
A heartbeat.
She punched a locker and howled in agony as her knuckles began to bleed from the impact.
"No!"
"Elena, when I find you-," she screamed.
What was the use? No one was there to hear her cries. No one cared.
Especially not her conniving, two-faced doppelganger.
"You're just like me, Elena," Katherine said aloud.
And now I'm just like you.
Katherine stood on shaky, weak, human legs and made her way to the trophy case. She looked at the reflection, and all of the years fell away.
She wasn't 500 years old anymore. She was eighteen going on nineteen, and she would be an old lady someday.
"You will pay, little shadow self. You will pay," she hissed.
Katherine turned from her reflection and glanced at the blood on the tiled floor.
Her blood.
"I can't do this," Katherine murmured, and a million and one thoughts flowed through her mind.
"I'll drive off Wickery Bridge. No- I'll set myself on fire!," she cried, laughing like a madwoman.
This was the end. She could never live like this.
"No. I will not die. Not until I take away your happiness, Elena. Never," Katherine muttered.
She straightened her shoulders and held her chin high.
"Watch out, little one. Watch out."
With that, she flipped her hair and smiled brightly as she walked down the hallway in her self-assured, wicked, devilishly human heels.
