But Still…
When we were both young
And our hearts wandered free
We both knew
We were meant to be
Throughout the days
We played hide-and-go-seek
And she would yell to me
"Don't you peek!"
But one afternoon
When the church bells struck three
They took you away
Her, nevermore, shall I see
Time had passed
We were now fourteen
And she was now a queen
I was but a servant
Heeding her every whim
My job was to make you prim
Her country did suffer
And the people did curse her
For she was the daughter of evil
But I knew better
She continued her reign
Had my heart bound in chain
And begged me to murder and maiden of green
Of whom she did not favor
I traveled unseen
To the country of green
And sought out my target, a noble
She had long emerald hair
It was hard not to stare
And my heart was quickly stolen
But still, my queen had wept at her existence
Even after my insistence
And I knew I loved her much more
So I drew my dagger
The maiden did stagger
And a red flower blossomed beautifully at her chest
Through tears undried
I whispered softly as I cried
"I'm sorry, but still, I love her."
Soon after, our people did rebel
As well as the country of green
They had us surrounded
Our guards were grounded
And I knew there was only one hope
I turned to my queen
And made sure she had seen
The determination shine from my eyes
At my idea, she seemed to worry
And I told her to hurry
As I let down my hair
And mimicked her voice
As she wrapped herself in my tunic
We were without a choice
She started to fret
So told her not to show this
"We are twins, no one will notice"
She started to cry
When I kissed her goodbye
And reached out toward me in desperation
She shouted to me
"Please don't go!"
But still, I love her so
And therefore, I harden my core
And walk out the door
They had me bound
Tied up all around
And led me to the guillotine
I saw my sweet sister whine
Her tear-filled eyes did shine
And she was the last thing I'd see
When the church bells struck three
But if I could be reborn just one more time
I'd want to be together with you again,
Sister mine.
