Chapter 1
Bittersweet Coffee: It Can Be Okay
I was on the train, glaring outside the window with an angry look on my face. My arms were crossed on my chest and Gumi was annoyingly humming her favorite song, PonPonPon. I have nothing against the song, but after you hear someone humming (and singing it occasionally) for about two hours it gets annoying.
"Gumi, I love you, but you're so annoying!" I finally barked at my best friend, which made people. I didn't care though, because they looked away after a few seconds anyways.
She stopped singing and turned to me. "Sorry, that song is so addicting..I listened to it all last night while I was trying to go to sleep. I woke up to the sound of the song. Heh," she chuckled. "Come on, isn't it catchy? Pon! Pon! Dashite-"
"Stop!" I exclaimed, and she shut her mouth quickly. "Geez, why are we going all the way out here again? I can't have a job that's about two hours away!"
"We're not going here for a job. My brother, Gumo, who lives out here with our dad is moving back to Tokyo with Mom and I." Gumi explained. "He got a job near us, and he told me they still have some positions available. How lucky!" she finished with a smile.
"Not for me. I can't believe I'm being forced to get a job." I paused. "So we're picking him up basically?"
Gumi replied, "Mhm."
"Cool." I replied, and that was all I said.
The rest of the way I decided to read some manga on my phone. Ah, I love my manga app.
When we got to Sendai, where Gumo lives, we made our way to Gumi's father's apartment. We used the buzzer.
"Dad! We're here to pick up Gumo!" Gumi said.
"Okay! Come up!" a very deep voice said.
Gumi opened the door and inside was a very nice lobby, with a white fuzzy rug, velvet red couches, and stands with lamps on them. Behind the desk was a woman who looked up at us. She smiled and walked over to us.
"Hello, are you here to visit someone?" she asked.
We nodded, and she nodded and walked back over to the desk. We entered the elevator, and went up to the third floor. When we were on the floor, Gumi lead me to his apartment. We knocked, and a man with light green hair opened the door. His mustache was the same hue. His eyes were also the same color.
"Hello, Gumi. Hello, Rin. Please come in. Gumo is in his room right down the hall." he pointed to the hallway. We nodded and entered the apartment.
It looked nice. They had a nice, wooden dining table with matching chairs, and a very nice kitchen too. There was a flat screen TV in front of a couch matching the one in the lobby except it was green. The rug was green too. I wanted to continue examining, but Gumi was dragging me down the hallway. We stopped in front of a door with a sign that said "GUMO" on it.
I was about to knock on the door, but Gumi held my hand back. "We don't have to knock."
"What if he's changing or something?" I protested.
She shook her head, and opened the door. Gumo, of course, was in the middle of his room only in his striped white and blue boxers. "Ah, hello guys."
I squealed a little, staring at his abs. He looked so mature, I couldn't believe he was the same age as us (14.)
Gumi just chuckled and covered my eyes. "Sorry Rin, we should have knocked." she paused for a second. "So, Gumo, we'll give you some time." she pulled me out the room, and I could here the door slam. She moved her hands from my eyes.
I turned to her with my arms crossed. "Didn't your parents tell you to always knock on somebody's door if it's closed?"
"I doubt my parents care about that stuff, they always walk in on me!" she giggled, and I couldn't help but giggle with her.
After a minute, Gumo opened the door, fully dressed. He wore a white t-shirt, jeans, and green sneakers. He slammed his door shut and smiled at us. "Let's go."
"Finally, we're home!" I sighed in relief as I exited the train with Gumi and Gumo. Gumi chuckled a little, and Gumo walked over to the map to examine it.
"If we walk, we should get there in about a minute. From your house, Rin, it would be about five minutes if you walk. From our house, it would be about the same." he turned to us. "We should get going."
We followed him to a small cafe with the words "Meiko's Cafe" printed on it. I turned to Gumo. "Are you sure they're still hiring?" I asked. He nodded in reply.
I opened the door and walked inside the cafe. It was pretty spacious inside. The tables were filled, except for a few. Gumo walked up to the counter, and Gumi and I followed him.
"Hello, I'm Gumo, and this is Rin. My sister Gumi is just visiting with us." he pointed to us, and we waved.
"Ah, the two looking for jobs? Okay, please follow Miki to the back! Miki" the woman behind the counter replied. She had long pink hair and blue eyes. "I'm Megurine Luka, assistant manager, nice to meet you."
"I'm Kagamine Rin, nice to meet you, Luka-san." I bowed.
"I'm Megpoid Gumi." Gumi smiled.
"I'm Megpoid Gumo." Gumo bowed too.
After we stood up, we saw a girl with red hair and eyes behind Luka. "Yes, Luka-san?"
"Please lead them to the back. The girl with green hair is just a visitor. The other two are the ones looking for a job." Luka pointed to us. We smiled at her. She smiled back and lead us to the back.
First, she showed us the kitchen. "This is the kitchen. Here you'll make pastries, beverages, stuff like that." she told us. Then, she showed us the locker room. "Here you'll change into your uniforms. The uniform is a white polo shirt with your name tag on it, jeans, and any shoes are allowed."
"Hey, when will we get our uniforms?" I asked.
"Oh, we'll find out what size you are, then we'll order the uniforms." she explained, and I nodded. "If you want to start work right away, you can wear anything, but you must wear jeans."
I nodded again, and she lead us to another room. In there was a living room type setup. "This is the break room. Here you can eat lunch, take a rest, stuff like that." it had a couch with a coffee table, a dining table in the corner, and a small kitchen in the other corner. Also, there was a TV in front of the couch. I realized a woman with short brown hair was on the couch too.
The woman turned, revealing her red eyes. "Ah, are these the people looking for a job?"
Miki nodded. "The girl with the green hair is only visiting."
The woman smiled. "That's alright. I'm Sakine Meiko, nice to meet you guys." she said.
"I'm Kagamine Rin, nice to meet you, Meiko-san." I bowed again.
"I'm Megpoid Gumi." Gumi waved again.
"I'm Megpoid Gumo." Gumo just smiled this time.
Meiko chuckled. "Please don't call me Meiko-san, just call me Meiko-chan, anything like that."
I smiled. "Okay, Meiko-chan."
Miki turned to us. "That's the end of the tour. I'm figuring you already know what the counter looks like." Miki giggled. "Oh, I should show you the storage room, shouldn't I? Sometimes you might have to unload boxes from the truck and deliver them to the room." she lead us to a slightly smaller room than the break room. There was a lot of boxes, with words like "FRENCH BREAD" on them.
"So, THAT concludes our tour." she lead us back to the front. "Would you like to start right away or wait for your uniforms? If right away, you can only start tomorrow."
"Eh, I NEED to start right away, so tomorrow. But, my size is 14 for shirts."
She nodded. "Gumo?"
"I'll just start when you get the uniforms. And, just get me something around medium."
She nodded again. "Okay! Since we're done, would you like to get something to eat?" she asked.
I looked at both of them. They both replied, "Okay."
I turned back to Miki. "Okay, we'll be eating something." she lead us to a table in the corner.
That's the end of chapter 1! Hopefully the next one will be longer. Hope you enjoyed!
