Someone Help Me

"Would you stop pacing the length of my lab already? You're driving me insane!" the lab tech asked the dark haired, brown eyed woman standing before her with a worried look gracing her pretty features.

"I can't help it, I pace when I'm nervous," the brunette replied to the Goth Lab Tech's question.

They settled into silence for a few seconds, enjoying the quiet surroundings just for a minute before a loud beep emanated from the stop watch indicating that whatever tests the Lab Tech had run was now complete.

"Are you ready?" Kate asked her friend as they made their way to the table holding the specimens.

"Are you?" Abby counter-questioned the brunette.

Kate simply shrugged her shoulders, but her eyes were filled with concern.

Abby walked over to the machine and pulled out the blood sample as well as the report of the test from the printer. She heaved in a deep breath, and exhaled slowly.

She turned the paper over to the printed side, but before she read the results, she thrust it toward her best friend.

"I think it's only fair you be the first person to know," Abby said as Kate accepted the sheet from her friend.

With trembling hands, Kate lifted the paper and scanned the contents quickly before a sharp intake of breath interrupted her actions.

Abby was now beginning to pace the lab and it looked like she was on the verge of having a colossal meltdown.

"Abbs, you do realise that when Gibbs finds out about this he is going to kill me, before he kills you?" Kate asked, just so that Abby was aware of the dangers that came with running this damn test.

"Come on Kate, don't be such a woos," Abby replied as she played with the band aid that Kate had placed on the crook of her elbow to stop the bleeding.

"Yeah, about that, you have to remember that not all of us have the same privileges as you do with Gibbs."

But you have bigger problems to worry about like how do you think you're going to tell him about – this," she said as she waved the sheet of paper in the air.

"Tell me what?" Both women froze as their subject of conversation entered the lab followed by his two subordinates.

A slight blush crept up Kate's neck, cheeks and ears, while Abby refused to meet his gaze.

"Nothing," Kate replied as she shifted uncomfortably on her feet.

"Kate," Gibbs's voice held no space for debate and Kate knew she couldn't lie to him, but she didn't want to be the one to tell him.

She folded the sheet of paper in half, concealing the print and walked over to McGee before turning back to look helplessly at Abby.

Kate slapped the sheet onto his chest before uttering a few words that would change all their lives – forever.

"Congratulations McGee, and Abby, I guess one plus one makes three after all."

It took Gibbs a few seconds to figure out what had just happened and when he did, Kate heard her boss's loud voice bellow at his junior agent.

"Special Agent McGee!" followed by McGee's timid one,

"Someone help me,"
