Percy was pacing the floor of his cabin when I walked in.
"I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, I will DIE."
"Percy!" I said. "What in Hades are you going on about?"
"School starts next week!"
I sighed, crossed over to him, and gave him a hug. Immediately, he folded me in his arms.
"I'll get expelled," he joked.
"What makes you think that?"
"Well, I'm going into my junior year, Annabeth. Ever seen me do three years at the same school?"
"Well, no."
"Exactly." He answered me.
I pulled out of Percy's arm and said "Well, at least you've been school. I'm not dating some idiot."
Percy gave me a brooding look, then conceded.
"True."
I slipped my hand into his and asked "Anyways, why worry now? We've got a whole week before."
He squeezed my hand and gave me a warm smile. "You're right, Wise Girl."
"As always, Seaweed Brain."
It was dinner time, and my shoulder was bandaged. Percy had tried to shoot an apple off of my head.
Well, epic fail, Seaweed Brain.
I should've known I would get hurt, especially considering his archery skills. (Which, by the way, were nonexistent.)
This is how it went:
"I am way better with a bow than you, Seaweed Brain."
"No."
"Yes."
(Okay, I had kind of bought into this one.)
"Shoot something then, Owl Head."
So I had shot an apple out of a tree.
Now, Seaweed Brain had to try to outdo me, so he tried to shoot this same apple off of my head. Naturally, he hit me in the shoulder instead.
So now Percy was sitting by me apologizing. "Oh my gods, I'm sorry Annabeth. I'm so sorry. I am such an idiot."
"Percy, it's okay."
"Thank the gods."
"But Percy?"
"Yeah?"
"Never make a bet with me again. Or you will end up in Tartarus."
"Point taken."
"Okay, Percy. I want you to get through those rings within ten seconds."
"Great idea, Wise Girl. Want some fries with that?"
"Shut up. I mean, come on. You're Poseidon's son. You won't burn as easily."
"Really helpful."
The rings were blazing with flame, ten yards apart, and there were ten of them.
Maybe I was expecting a bit much.
"'Member the last bet, Annabeth?"
I nodded. I was afraid of apples now.
"I mean, I can't run that fast."
"I thought you were the world's fastest runner, Kelp Head."
"Not anymore. Leo flipping took my title."
"And he's so fierce." I joked.
"Have you seen him fight? He's badass."
I laughed.
"Meet Percy Jackson, my boyfriend, son of Poseidon, Savior of Olympus, afraid of a boy from Hephaestus who looks like an elf."
"Mean Girl." Percy laughed.
"Well it is Wednesday, October 3rd."
"Anyways, I can't make that in ten seconds."
"Yes, you can."
"Fine, I'll try."
So I watched as Percy jumped through the rings. He actually made it with time to spare.
He came up to me.
"Title…taken back from…Valdez." He panted, out of breath.
"Told you that you could do it." I said, smiling.
And that kiss was the best one we'd had in a while.
