I reread the last line of the paragraph again and sat there in disbelief. "You've probably had that moment in your life when you would sit and stare at a blank paper hopelessly, wishing that brilliant ideas would just magically appear," was what it had said. I was sitting in my bed, writing class book in hand, offended that the darned book would even suggest such a thing.

What I had was an easy assignment. Read the introduction to my Writer's Craft book and then write an essay about writing. It may sound confusing, but really it's not. I was only to write an essay on what writing is to me. But inside, truly, reading this sentence didn't sound right.

Never in my life had I been faced with a moment so dreaded that I would stare at a blank piece of paper with no hope. When I am faced with a blank piece of paper, what is in my heart is pure excitement. I am filled with thoughts such as, "What masterpieces can I fill this with?"

Writing is beauty. Writing is just natural. Writing isn't about putting a story in a cover and making tons of money. Writing is taking whatever is blank and making in beautiful, making in something that other people want to see. That's the definition of art, yes, but that's what writing is. Writing is a form of art, and in my opinion, the best form of art.

The best form of art is the kind of art that many people appreciate and want to share. Writing is something that you are proud to put your name on, and feel happy and pleased when someone reads. When someone tells you their opinion of your writing, and the opinion is positive, you feel very happy.

Even if the opinion isn't all fluff, it makes you happy to see that someone took enough time to care and read. Writing takes you places you've never been before. Writing is making someone's day. Writing is the power to dramatically alter someone's emotion. Writing is the power to know you've made someone happy, regret you've made someone sad, or make someone upset laugh.

Writing is the power to inspire. Writing is the freedom to be you; no matter what race, gender, or age. Writing is the freedom to be wherever you are in the world. And Fanfiction, the best website ever, lets you be YOU even more than before. Being able to write anonymously, you can like whatever you want to like, and people will like your story because of the STORY itself, not because of who it's by.

I set my book down and got my backpack out. Why? So I could put this in it, of course. I wouldn't want to forget to turn in my essay!
