Chapter 1: The Boy Who Lived

Mr and Mrs Granger were two very ordinary people. They lived in an ordinary house, on an ordinary street, Hodgson Avenue. They both had ordinary jobs, and worked at the same dentistry, Grunnings Dentists. Mr Granger was a tall, refined man. He was balding, but the small amount of hair he had remaining was a mousy brown. Mrs Granger was a short, plump woman. She had bushy, brown hair and was a very intelligent woman.

The only part of their lives that wasn't ordinary was their daughter Hermione. Not only was Hermione beautiful, she was also extremely intelligent for her age. For her first birthday, which she had celebrated only a month previously, she had received a lot of presents, but her favourite ones were all books. They had everything they needed to continue their perfectly ordinary lives.

When Mr and Mrs Granger woke up on that cold, grey Tuesday morning, there was nothing to suggest that strange and mysterious things would be happening across the world. Mr Granger picked out his favourite suit and tie, whilst Mrs Granger chatted on the phone at the same time as reading to young Hermione.
'Green Eggs!', giggled Hermione.
Mr Granger chortled at her enthusiasm and pecked her, and Mrs Granger, on the cheek before leaving for work in his new BMW.

While he was driving, he noticed a large amount of people were wearing rather strange clothes. They were all wearing bright cloaks of a varying degree of colour. Although, being a middle-aged man, Mr Granger just assumed it was another silly teenage fashion. He arrived at Grunnings' car park in a good mood.

He spent that morning pre-occupied with his customers, and didn't notice the extraordinary amount of owls flying overhead, although, he was one of the few people who didn't. People down in the street gazed open-mouthed, as owl after owl swooped past. He dealt with several important customers and was in a very good mood by lunch time.

For lunch Mr Granger decided to treat himself. He strolled down to the local restaurant and had a delicious dinner. After that he went for a walk by the lake. Whilst he was walking, he walked past a group of men in emerald-green cloaks and inadvertently caught a snippet of their conversation.
'I can't believe it-'
'-how did young Harry Potter survive?'
Mr Granger stopped walking for a second, and tried to recall anything in the News about a Harry Potter, but he shortly gave up and quickly became engrossed in his thoughts.

That night he realised that he was one of the few people who hadn't noticed any strange events happening. Even the celebrated local weatherman, 'Jim McGuffin', had commented on these events on the news.
'Well Ted', said Jim, 'I don't know about that, but it's no only the owls that have been acting oddly today. Viewers as far apart as Kent, Yorkshire and Dundee have been phoning in to tell me that instead of the rain I promised yesterday, they've had a downpour of shooting stars!
