*Kirkland's POV*
Captain Kirkland was an extremely light sleeper. So, when the French came and boarded his ship, Kirkland was already wide awake, grabbing the covers, and laying them over Alfred's bed, in hopes that they wouldn't find him. He heard loud footsteps coming towards him as he shoved his hat on his head, moving into the shadows...
Five pirates walked in, and moved towards the Captain's bed, forcing off the covers, revealing two bags of potatoes, and no Captain.
Kirkland allowed them five seconds of questioning the potatoe sacks before he forced his desk at them, hopefully slowing them down as he dashed out the door, and headed towards the other living compartments. He shoved the door open, causing a few of them to stir from sleep.
"Wake up!" He barked, and started shoving people, grabbing their covers and smacking their heads. They weren't waking up fast enough.
"What are you doing?" Someone slurred, half-conscious.
"The bloody frogs are here, and we need to act fast! I think they are already on their way here!" French phrases were being shouted above them, as well as heavy stomps and gunfire. Some people jumped up, their eyes wide. Boy, were they awake now. They started waking people up, and telling them to hurry.
"Do we get our swords and fight?" One of the crew asked.
"No, I am going to hold them off, you just need to hurry, you'll need to use the secret exit, and make sure to fill the boats to the brim, I want everyone except Owain, Patrick, and Scott gone!" The room was cleared quickly, everyone taking a secret exit that lead them to the rescue boats.
"Okay, I have a mission for you three. You need to make sure Alfred gets on a boat, and leaves. He's still asleep, so don't wake him till everyone's gone. Wait untill I get rid of the bloody frogs, then we'll all go. If they take me, or kill me," Kirkland paused, looking his trusted crew mates in the eyes, "then just go." With that, the Captain rushed out of the room.
He grabbed two knifes from the kitchen, and traveled up to the main deck, killing all the invaders he passed. He was on a mission; nothing was going to stop him from reaching the deck and killing every last frog. When he finally reached the main deck, he was greeted with even more of the French intruders. He was doing brilliant, killing, stabbing left and right. But there were too many of them, and he was stabbed in the shoulder, which made his shoulder immobilized. The Frenchmen seemed to take that to their advantage, and sliced at the captain with every chance they had.
Kirkland's vision started to blur; the pain was dulling, from the loss of blood. The attacks seemed to stop, but that didn't stop the faintness he felt. He sunk down from his knees to the ground. All hope of leaving alive was down the drain now, as his defeat suddenly toppled over him.
"Ohonhonhonhon, Arthur, can you feel it? The cries of your crew, as they burn in the night, never expecting their lives' to end so soon..." In front of him were the shoes of his most hated rival, Francis Bonnefoy.
Kirkland didn't acknowledge Francis's speech, or the shit eating grin that was most certainly carved on his face.
His crew was safe. (Or at least most of it. The slaves aboard were most likely the ones that Francis was talking about, but they didn't really matter.) what did matter was that Alfred was alive. As long as Alfred was alive, Arthur could live. He had to live, for the sake of Alfred. He had made a promise to the child, and that was a promise he'd keep.
"Stand like a man, Captain Kirkland." Francis ordered, and kicked him in the side, showing him what would come of him if he didn't. Though there was no promise of what would come of him if he did. French pirates were tricky and unpredictable.
Kirkland rose on unsteady feet, looking the French captain straight in the eyes, daring him to speak. He was still pain ridden, but the was nothing else to do but to ignore the pain.
"What are you going to do next, frog, kill me?"
"Oh, mon ami, you underestimate me. Of course, I'll have to kill you later, but for tonight, you'll live. You know, your country has a bounty after you, and you're worth more alive."
Kirkland gave him a puzzled look, before shaking his head. There was no way he would let Francis take him back to his country. No way.
"Cuff him, then send him over."
Francis turned, and the remaining Frenchmen took hold on the Englishman, securing shackles around his wrists and ankles.
He had to get out of this imprisonment before it was too late. There had to be a way...
He looked about his ship as they marched him towards a plank that connected the two ships, and, as far as he could think, there was no way out.
crashed against the two ships as the French pirates made their way across the plank. Half way through, Kirkland started struggling again, moving from side to side.
If he were to die, the sea, not the French, had to take his death on its hands.
And so he jumped from the plank, into the sea. The waves overtook him in their freezing talons, and as Kirkland struggled, he couldn't help but to sink.
He didn't know how to swim as it was, and the shackles didn't help him one bit as he went under, into the black depths of the sea. The water filled his lungs as his air supply ran out and his mouth instinctively opened for air. Icy-cold water flooded in, his throat burned as if a thousand needles had been plunged into it. He desperately clawed at the water, trying to shoot to the surface while his lungs swamped with slimy liquid and he convulsed uncontrollably.
His muscles relaxed and he was oddly calm for a moment - then everything slowly faded to black. The water ended everything.
(...Or should we say began?)
AN: Hey, chicka-dees and chicka-dudes.
This is the last edit I'm making to this story. I'm treating it like a new story, so all the other chapters are deleted, though they will be posted on a later date, revised and way longer.
Please bear with the many mistakes I undoubtably made, since this was written on my tablet. (I you do notice any, please post the errors in a review, and I'll correct them)
As always, reviews are so much love, and will actually HELP with the updates, making them faster.
