Instead of my usual AU writing I thought I'd try something a little diffrent.

Gilbert looked curiously across the isle at a red headed girl. Silently he wondered where she had come from and more importantly what she was like. She seemed pretty chummy with Diana Barry. Perhaps they were similar? He could stand another Diana. Diana was one of the only girls he could stand. She listened. She was sweet, but there were two things he found lacking in Diana. 1) She didn't have much to say and 2) Although she was a good person, she blended in too well with the rest of the girls. He hoped this new girl would be everything Diana was and have what she lacked.

The girl looked over at Gilbert after a whisper from Diana. He smirked. Every girl in Avonlea fawned over him and this girl was about to do the same. Getting her to be his friend would be easy, especially when she wasn't really very pretty. In fact, he notice the only thing really pretty about her was her eyes. Grey with with flecks of green. And they were entirely too large.

He winked at her certain she would blush and whisper something to Diana.

She turned her nose up at him and turned back to Diana. He chuckled. Not willing to give into his charm, huh? No matter, he'd get her to like him. He always got them to like him.

Gilbert leaned towards her and whispered the words he would forever regret.

"Hey, Carrots!"

No response.

He tried again.

"Carrots." Nothing.

He pulled her braid. That would surely get her attention. Unfortunately it wasn't the blush or the eyelash flutter or even the sobs he was expecting. She stood up seething with anger. The words she said cut him deeper than a knife. "You mean hateful boy!" Was he really that bad? He looked at her searchingly. Judging from the hate in her eyes, yes he was. Perhaps it was time to leave the childish teasing to Charlie. If it hurt people this bad.
