I'm not a poem kind of person, but I did this a few years back (7th grade!) for a homework assignment as a dedication to my grandfather about the terrors of war, and how somehow, he survived it. I thought I'll post this up since I've deleted it from my computer.

God, have you forgotten us?

Day by day,
Minute by minute,
The wrath of evil takes over souls.
No one is save,
All fight for survival.
Terrified and tired,
Everyday is a battle.
To live is impossible,
Or so it would seem.
Starved and Over-worked,
Overcoming seems ridiculous.
No longer free,
We are but slaves.
God, have you forgotten us?

The smell of fear deep in the air,
Keeps some awake all day.
The screams of death,
Makes blinking of eyes unearthly.
Nor is the sense of evil,
A comforting thought.
As amazing as it is,
Nothing is too hard.
You have seen the depths of hell,
Felt it right next to you.
You can do anything now.

Hope is the key,
As is strength and determination.
However big the challenge may be,
Cherish your memories and hold on tight.
Life is a roller coaster,
Full of ups and downs.
Believe in yourself,
And others will soon follow.
Everyone has a fate,
Whether good or bad.
Fight on,
And you shall survive.
