His hand was lightly balled into a small fist and rubbing his auburn eyes free of tears that wanted to fall, but he wouldn't let them. He whimpered a bit as he sat up and looked at his cell phone. The blonde had been away for about three days now. He was on a job with Tom, despite how much pleading Izaya did for him to stay. He told the male that he'd miss him too much...God was he right. For the fifth time that day, with it only being about 9:51 PM, he was sitting on their bed, crying into his knees, missing the blonde.
Through the entire time, the blonde had called both nights, at the same time, and gotten a crying Izaya each time. As usual, he said he'd be home soon, but Izaya was beginning to wonder how long the blonde would truly be away. He was trying hard not to think the worst had happened...but it was oh so hard not too.
His head popped up as he burst into tears again, answering the cell without even knowing who had called. In a breaking and shaking voice, he spoke.
H-hello...?
Izaya...You're crying again...
S-Shizuo!
Hey, shh...I'll be home soo-
When!? When are you coming back!? I miss you! It's torture here without you! P-please c-c-come back...
Iz...aya...
But it was too late, he was crying, and hard, once more, barely keeping a hold on the phone. He tried hard to calm down as the blonde's warm voice could be heard again, this time a bit softer...and with a bit of an echo.
Izaya...I hate seeing you crying into your knees...
H-how...did you k-know...?
He wipes his red auburn eyes as he blinked, confused as to how the blonde knew how he was crying. He'd never seen him cry...except when they got engaged of course, but still it came off as odd to the ex-Informant. Again, that same odd echoing noise could be heard over the phone line as he sniffled weakly. A bit skeptical at first, he could've sworn he heard the blonde's black suede shoes on the hardwood floor of the hallway connecting all of the rooms and doors.
You didn't think I'd be gone more than three days and not miss the Hell out of you, would I?
S-Shizuo...?
He dropped the phone as he realized it wasn't just in his head. Dashing out of the bed, he skidded to a stop outside of their bedroom, looking down the hall frantically for the blonde. Tears filled his eyes again, threatening to fall. Was the blonde teasing him? Trying to hurt him? Or did he just want to hear him cry?
Before a single tear could fall, he turned and walked back to their bedroom, refusing to cry anywhere else. Eyes widened as his mouth opened in shock. The same smirk was plastered onto his face, slowly growing into a sweet smile as he stood, beginning to walk to the shocked male. Strong arms wrapped tightly around the close to tears male, making those tears fall, but faster and out of joy. His own thin arms wrapped tightly around the taller male's torso as he laughed happily.
Shizuo! Shizuo! You're here! You're really home!
I told you I wouldn't leave you alone anymore...
W-why didn't I believe you...?
'Cause...I'm not good with words...
B-better than me...
Nah...But I do think you deserve a "Hello baby.~".
That was all he needed to hear to lift his head and lock lips with the smiling blonde's. He hated being away from the blonde in Ikebukuro. But this one specific time was torture. He had to wait three days to finally be back with the one person in his entire life who meant the world to him. He was finally smiling again.
In his mind, it was true.
Even a minute without Shizuo was pure torture for Izaya's heart.
