VAMPIRE KNIGHTS

1.

The girl sat amidst the carnage yet again. It was the fourth time in three years. The first time it had been her own family that she had grown up in. Her mother and father and two younger sisters. An older brother had escaped only because he had moved out with his new bride a few months earlier. She had gone to live with him then. But not long after the birth of her brother's first child she found herself alone in the world again. No one survived the second night of carnage. It had been seen as a miracle that she had survived the events that destroyed her parents and sisters. She had no memory of the events themselves really. The most she could recall was running in terror and the screaming – that she could hear in her head clearly if she thought of it. Other than that she only remembered waking up in a sea of blood and torn up bodies. She herself was covered in blood as well, and her clothing had all but been shredded off her body. But for all that she only had a few small cuts that healed soon after.

But it was different the second time. The night she lost the only remaining family she had in the world. She had taken the rubbish out back where they would burn it later and missed the shadowy figure enter the house. But as she reached the door she heard the first screams. Opening the door she witnessed a flurry of movement, limbs flailing, a large figure tearing out the throat of her brother and…. no – she wouldn't allow herself to see that. She clapped her hands over her mouth to stifle the urge to retch and hold back the scream building inside her.

The monster did not notice her enter the back door while in the midst of it's activities and turned aside. It was then the girl noticed her sister-in-law frozen with terror in a heap on the floor next to the kitchen sink. The thing advanced uttering a sickening sound that could have been laughter. The woman's eyes darted away from the thing for a brief moment before the she too was torn to pieces like her husband.

'Oh gods! The baby!' the girl thought seeing the direction her sister-in-law had looked. Without a second thought she ran to the other room where the infant was sleeping in a basinet. She didn't get a chance to even reach the child before the monster suddenly appeared between them.

"No, I don't think so sweetie," it spoke. If not for the glowing red eyes, and very obvious long canine teeth it could have been mistaken for a human. Albeit a man covered in blood and gore. "I think I want that," it said giving a nod of it's head to the infant, "for desert." The girl blanched. "I'm feeling like I'm getting a bit full here." He said with a sickening look that seemed to approximate a grin. "I think I need to slow my meal down a bit. I think I'll play with my food this time."

The girl seemed as if she had been tied in place. Sick with fear and horror she couldn't move. The thing her mind finally recognized as a vampire reached out and made a slow deliberate slit in the sleeve of her coat. The edges fell open revealing a thin line of red as blood began to seep out of a matching slit in her arm. The vampire grasped her to keep her from fleeing and bent to lap up the blood now pouring freely out of the gaping wound. Tearing at her clothing to gain access to more flesh he began slashing at the girl all over her body and licking up the blood that poured out. He had little trouble restraining her until he was done cutting up nearly every inch of her skin.
