It was that day. That god dammit day that nobody in the whole eternity wanted. The bombs dropped.
Lucy was in a deep sleep. Nothing could harm her dreams until she heard a slam that waked her up.
"Mom, you could knock, y'know." Lucy said quietly.
Then she saw her mom scattering through all her things and grabbing clothes.
"Mom! What are you doing?" She shouted cringing seeing that her teddy bear was on the floor.
"We need to pack! RIGHT NOW. The boms dropped sweetheart, we have 2 hours until the initial blast go and pack!"
Lucy didn't seem to care. Their country never was on a nuke/bomb alert. It couldn't be true. The girl rolled back on her side and continued to sleep. She was in a good dream again. Just until her mom came in again.
"Lucy! You aren't packed yet. We have half an hour to go and there's no time to dress! COME ON!" Her mom shouted as she dragged her daughter still in pijamas and sleepy around the street.
"Where are we going?!" Her daughter asked in disbelief that it happened.
It was the day she thought she was going to die.
A big boom intrerrupted the reply her mom wanted to give her. Then a flash blinded the girl and she fell on the ground only ticking being heard.
Then she woke up next to a tree. She couldn't see -being temporally blind- but only hear the siren and the agony in people's screams.
"Mom?" Lucy shuddered as she asked "Are you here, I can't see!"
The girl was waiting for a reply like "I'm here!" or "Don't worry we're safe." But the true reply was nothing more than silence. It was painful to hear silence that time.
Hardly opening her eyes, Lucy saw just destruction. She almost wanted to curl up in a ball and just step into the radiation zone.
"I'm probably radiation~sick right now... There's no more hope." She said to herself.
The girl got up and started walking down the silent freeway full of crashed cars and crushed houses. Then she turned around, went through a little space full of trees and found her only and one house. Not destroyed.
Lucy just rushed in on the window and everything was intact.
"Hm...Maybe mom is somewhere in here after she got up from the shock wave. MOM?!"
She got nothing more than silence but after another round of shouting the girl heard a little "meow" coming from under her bed.
After looking there she saw a small cat -a male-. IT WAS TOMMY! Her cat that she lost a year ago. It came back.
"Tommy! I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!"
She wanted to hug it but then backed away. Lucy was probably full of radioactive material. The girl took a bag out of her closet and Tommy crawled in there.
The rest of the days they just stood there, kind of chatting. Lucy found her phone also. There was no signal and calling 911 wouldn't have worked. After two weeks, she came out of her house suprisingly seeing a new city building before her eyes. Her home never dissapeared.
