It's not a poem, either a story. I had it in my mind one morning and had to put it on paper (ok, on Pc :P). The original is in spanish, that's just a translation.

Javert is a Victor Hugo character and La Seine... go to Paris and you can meet "her".

The Seine

This night you came to see me.

But you had an absent look,

A heavy gait and a restless soul.

Your eyes noticed me,

But they didn't see what I am,

Didn't see my beauty, my strength and my power.

They only saw what I reflect.

Stars, cold and far away,

A dream unreachable, a vain hope

Am I not enough?

You, the one who had me waiting for you!

Me, the one that conquerors looked for,

Me, the one that kings adored,

Me, the one that gods blessed.

I could tell you stories from centuries ago,

Tell you about battles, assassinates and betrays

To propose you the illusion of peace that you yearn for.

You don't hear me!

You even dare to recognize me,

Don't you feel how the whirl of fury grows up in me?

I can't tolerate your indifference!

But, what are you doing? You abandon me?

I desire and yearn for you, and you let me alone?

Good! Disappear!

You are not more than the rest,

Too fragile, coward and weak.

You are so insignificant!

I cleaned wounds worsens than yours,

The poorness of your Paris I've consoled
The desperation of your people I've heard

The blood of your guillotines I've gobbled it up

I'm too glorious for you,

I'm the symbol of a Nation,

I was here before you all arrived,

And I'll be here after you all depart.

Alone.

Come back black height, tall and solemn.

You that represent the artificial law,

Let me show you the law of the nature.

Is that an illusion of my hope?

Is that a swindle of my fantasy?

You come back! Or maybe you never left me.

Delirious. Come to me!

Your fears will disappear with my anger,

In the cot of my waters you will find harmony,

And the eternity will bind us forever,

In legends that never will be forgotten.
