Conquest
by B. Wendy
Blaise didn't like the easy things. Time worth for the thing was more valuable than the thing itself. Like card games. The pleasure of the game is the doubt, if you're winning of not, and what you do to get there. Then, if you lose or not, doesn't matter. It's past. And what Blaise cared more was the present.
"Just sex, Blaise. Just sex."
And like a card game, she bluffed. Because love was the past. She used to say that they were all about sex, because she was weak. She didn't know how much love was good enough, worth to forget the how a conquest was good. To turn into past. And she was afraid because, for her, losing mattered.
"Yeah. Just sex."
He kept falling in his own bluffs and fooling himself. Because bluffing is not to fool someone. Is to be fooled.
After all, if they weren't just the sex?

Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off. Bluffing is the second. And as harder the bluff is hard for you, more fun he is.
"I'm tired of you."
She said, and he laughed.
"Me too."
And Pansy thought that maybe he was bluffing too.

"I can't stand you."
Egocentric, sarcastic and irresistible. Unbearable. Just like Pansy.
"You're lying." He laughed. "And you're too."
Arrogant. Really unbearable.
"No, I'm not bluffing. And you too."
They were the same, Pansy knew it. Maybe that's why loving him was as good as hating him. Two bluffs.
"Yes, we're always, don't we?"

"You know you love me." She said, that fake smile fitting just fine on her, she found out.
"Yeah, normally I know everything" he said, that ironic smile always I his face. A new one, since Pansy copied the other.
"Why you never say to me?" she said without thinking. The truth, without lies of bluffs. That hurt. Hurt not telling the truth as much as hurt not knowing if he really loved her.
"You'd think it was a bluff. I prefer to show it."
"With sex?" she copied the ironic tone. Pansy always copied him, because they were too alike for mere differences screw this.
"No. With all those bluffs. Bluffing is stupid, is fooling yourself. And if I did this, I did it for you, Pansy."
"You don't like easy things."
"You were never an easy thing. Bluffs never are."
He kissed her and she surrendered. He didn't need to bluff anymore. That hole love was a bluff.
