Alexis smiled. She loved days like this, when there was sunshine and a lack of drama. It was a pleasant change of pace.
She was suddenly aware of the bench growing heavier on the other side. She swiveled her eyes to the left and saw Chazz: a sloppy, goofy smile on his face. Well, that was the end of her perfect afternoon.
"Hi Alexis," He said, in an uncharacteristically cordial manner, "It's a nice day today."
She winced. He was almost more annoying when he was trying to act proper and friendly. "What do you want? Chazz," She addressed him, finally, her voice flat and bored.
He looked genuinely hurt, "Nothing. Atticus just told me you might be here, so I figured…" He stopped in his tracks when he saw her expression change to anger.
"Will you stop stalking me already?!" She yelled, her patience with her brother's matchmaking having long since run out, "You know if you really 'want me', you might try taking advice from me and not from Atticus."
Chazz looked so eager, that Alexis was sure that this was the closest his smile would ever get to resembling Jaden's. "What do you mean?" He asked.
Alexis bit her lip, what exactly had she meant? She sure as hell wasn't going to give Chazz advice on how to win her heart. But she had to say something… "Just try being friends with me."
He looked disappointed, and his voice sounded it when he replied, "That's what you said the last time." He slunk down further on the bench and Alexis found herself pitying him, a tiny bit, "Then why didn't you listen to me?" She asked him wisely. "If you really liked me, then you would have left me alone when I asked you to."
Chazz seemed to be struggling with himself. He remained silent, however, and Alexis almost felt glad that he didn't apologize or something. She decided to try and make conversation, "So what did you think of Crowler's test?"
Chazz looked at her, obviously confused, but replied anyway, "I aced it."
Alexis smiled, he was more fun to be around when he was himself, "Yeah, well, I would have too, except I had to stay up with Atticus all night, quizzing him."
"Oh yeah, now that Zane's gone, who's gonna 'study' with him?" Chazz said. Alexis raised her eyebrows and laughed. Perhaps Chazz was more observant than she'd thought.
They were silent for a while and then Chazz spoke, "Hey Alexis?"
"Yeah," She replied, not fully paying attention to him.
"If I keep talking to you like this, will you'll go out with me?" He asked, looking hopeful.
She groaned, and promptly stood from the bench and headed towards the Obelisk dorms. Chazz always managed to ruin the moment.
