Looking up at the star-studded sky, Clara and the Doctor lay on their backs, hands dangerously close to touching. They were on top of a hill by the sea, and as the salty air gently stroked their cheeks, they spoke in hushed voices.

"It's beautiful," Clara whispered.

"I thought you'd like it," replied the Doctor, a smile appearing on his face. Clara turned her head towards his and looking deep into his eyes, began to smile also. As their eyes interlocked, a spark ignited inside them both.

The Doctor turned his head back so that he was facing upwards, once again looking at the stars. "Do you know what stars are?"

"Pretty?" Clara said, gazing out into the night sky.

"Dangerous too…"

"My mum always used to say that stars were tiny holes poked through the fabric of the universe, with the light of beyond shining through…"

"I wish the universe was that simple," the Doctor interrupted. After a long pause, the Doctor looked at Clara again. "Do you feel safe?" he asked.

"What do you mean?"

"With me. Do you feel safe? I know I've asked you this before, but do you truly feel safe? The universe is a dangerous place and it's my job to protect you, Clara Oswald."

Clara looked down towards her hand. The distance between herself and the Doctor seemed unnatural. She slowly edged her fingers towards the Doctor's hand and as she did, the Doctor's eyes traveled down to watch her outstretched fingers reach for his. He took her hand first and squeezed it tight. For a moment, he felt like he was a complete circuit.

As they both stared into the distant universe, their minds were distracted from the beautiful view as they both thought about each other. Suddenly, the stars were blanketed by a dark cloud, making it impossible to see the sky.

"Looks like it's going to rain," the Doctor remarked.

"Yeah," she responded, "I want it to rain. Like right now. I really feel like dancing in the rain. Don't know why. Just do."

The Doctor gave a little smile, and as he did, the heavens opened. A shower of water droplets poured down, hitting every inch of the ground. Startled, Clara instinctively crunched up and closed her eyes, letting out a little squeal of surprise in the process. The Doctor quickly jumped up and reached for Clara's hand again. She stood up, with her eyes still closed. Once standing in front of him, her body facing his, Clara opened her eyes to see the Doctor smiling intently.

"Why are you smiling like that?" she asked, her gentle northern accent rolling off of her tongue.

"Oh, I don't know." replied the Doctor. "Shall we dance?"

Droplets racing down her face, Clara smiled. The Doctor took her hand in his and placed his other arm around her waist. Clara placed her hand on his wet shoulder and began to move her feet. The Doctor's legs moved woodenly and Clara let out a light giggle as he tried so hard to coordinate his limbs.

The Doctor stumbled slightly, and after Clara gave a grin, they came to a halt. She blinked her long eyelashes at the Doctor, making his two hearts flutter.

"You need some practice, Chin Boy!"

"I used to be good at dancing." said the Doctor. "At least I think I used to be…"

The Doctor looked down at his feet, slightly embarrassed. Letting go of his hand, Clara lifted her fingers and placed them underneath his chin. She lifted his face so she could see his eyes again and smiled. He smiled back, and as he did, Clara placed her arms around the Doctor's waist, pulling him in close for a hug.

Rain beating down on them, the pair stood in silence, embracing each other. Their clothes were soaked through to their skin, but they were oblivious.

Together, they stood on top of a hill by the sea.
