Fire roars, fire dies.

The relationship was great. It started out like a fairy tale. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, boy asks girl out, girl accepts. The relationship was happy, the relationship was sweet. They belonged together as much as they belonged in the Fire Nation, because their fire roared. But it soon began to dwindle.
Mai sat patiently waiting for her boyfriend, Zuko, to return home. She sat in the main room that the door led to. A fire place was positioned on one wall, the fire burning fiercly. The door finally opened and revealed Zuko smiling. But when he noticed Mai his smile fell, then was replaced with a faker smile. "Hi, Mai..."he said.
"Hello, Zuko. Let's talk." she replied in a monotone voice.
"About what?" he asked, just standing there.
"It's time we break up." She pulled a knife from her boot and played with it, the way she did when she was upset.
His handsome face burrowed."What? Why!"
"Shall I have to say it, Zuko?" He didn't reply. "Fine. It's the minor details. You hug me funny, you say my name differently, the conversations aren't long, and the kisses are light."
"So what?"
"You hug me as if you rather not, when we talk you always seem to want to end it, the kisses are so light its like a wisp of wind, and the worst part is when you say my name. It's like you're going to say someone else's but you stop yourself just in time."
"No, I don-" he started but Mai interrupted him.
"Are you cheating on me?"
"No." he said truthfully.
"Do you like some other girl?" she asked.
He didn't say anything.
"It is a girl, isn't it?" she asked as she raised an eyebrow.
"Of course it's a girl!" he said quickly. "I mean-"
"No, you meant what you said. Who?"
Once again, he didn't reply.
"I think I deserve to know. You already toyed with my heart after all."
"Katara! It's Katara okay!"
"That watertribe skank?" she asked calmly.
"She's not a skank! At least she has emotions!"
"Get out."
"Fine." he said gruffly.
Mai watched him go apatheticaly. But in her head she kept repeating, "He's coming back. He's going to apologize. We'll be happy." But Zuko left, not even bothering to close the door.
Mai squeezed her eyes shut, her lips pursed, trying to wake up. She could feel her angry, agony, and betrayl boiling in her. She jumped up and the chair knocked over. She flung the knife as hard as she could. "Oh, Agni." Tears filled her eyes. "Me too."
Seconds earlier...
Zuko stepped out of the house and looked around. "Zuko!"
He saw Katara running towards him. She wrapped her arms around him and he put her arms around her also. "How did it go? Did she cry? Can we be together now?"
Zuko didn't say anything as he pulled her at arms length. "Listen Katara." He said looking in her sea blue eyes. "I love-"
But once again he was cut short. He fell to the ground and Katara screamed. In Zuko's back was a knife, Mai's knife.
He spoke weakly. "I'm sorry Mai."
"Oh Agni. Me too."
And just like that, their love, their flame, flared and died.
