Authors note: I do not own the Legend of Zelda. Nintendo does and I don't think I'll ever get it. *sniff* Hey we all can dream though. Anyway I know this is real short but it was a quick thing that got in my head and I had to write it out.
"Have you picked out a name yet?" my friend Nali asks me.
"No not yet." I tell her.
"It must be a good and strong name, one fit for a king."
"I still have quite awhile to decide. I am just now four months"
"If it's not a good one I will pick it out myself."
We laugh and sit together in the shade and are quiet. I know she wishes it could have been her. I know so many others wished it was them. Yet out of all the women, it was I.
Since the year dawned we flocked constantly to the castle market. We batted our eyes, and flaunted our stomachs, and made the pale Hylian men slaves to our desires. The hundredth year was upon us. The next male would be born and only one woman would have the honor. Women who took seed went immediately to the Gerudo witches. They are hags with black hearts but gifted with the power of magic, and power is respected among our kind. They laid their hands on women and each time shook their heads. "Not the one. She carries not a male." This only encouraged those of us who were still barren, we still had a chance. One woman in the year would carry a male inside of her, would share the blood of our future king.
The man I laid with, he was attractive for a Hylian. He was not the fair skinned, blonde headed, weakling that so many are. He labored in the sun and his skin was quite tan, his hair was a dark brown, and his work showed in his muscles. He knew what I wanted. All the men knew why we Gerudos came to them. He did not pretend with me and I liked that. He was rough and exciting and when the deed was done, we went our separate ways. We never even asked for names. When our group came home we went to the witches. When they touched me their eyes went wide. "Her! Her! She is the one! She carries our king!"
So here I am now. I pray to the Goddess of Sand and to Din, Goddess of Power, to watch over my son. I asked them to give him power and strength. A Gerudo king must be strong.
"I think I'd like to have a child someday." My friend Nali says suddenly.
I give her a friendly nudge. "Don't tell me you've gone maternal."
"It's not like I'm in a hurry, but someday. I even know what I'd name her."
"Well I'm listening."
"I'd name her Nabooru."
I think for a minute. "It's a good name."
We sit in silence once more. The rays of sun bathe our golden dessert. In the distance the sand temple gleams. A breeze blows gently. I place my hand over my stomach and feel a slight flutter inside of me.
