.You Ruined Everything.
"Give it to me, Agnes!"
"No! I had it first!"
"It's not even your's!"
"It's not your's either! Let go!"
"Fine!"
Edith huffed as she let go of the freeze ray she and her younger sister were fighting over. It flew out of Agnes' tiny hands and fell on to the floor with a thump followed by a loud cracking noise.
"Ooooh!" A couple of minions hummed, pointing at the two young children who both looked at each other then ran to find their father before the other did.
"I'm telling Daddy!" Agnes cried as the two finally made it back into the house from the underground lab. Edith furrowed her brows at Agnes as she ran right behind her into the living room where Gru was napping on the couch.
"Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" Agnes cried, running over to the edge of the couch and smacking at the back of her father's bare head repeatedly to wake him up. He grumbled in a slight daze while opening his eyes as he in one swift movement, rolled on to his back then picked Agnes up, holding her over him.
"What is it, Agnes?" He sounded sleepy but not mad or annoyed in the slightest that he had been woken up by his youngest daughter. Agnes pointed a finger accusingly at Edith who crossed her arms and glared at the little girl.
"Edith broke the freeze ray!"
"Nobody likes a tattle- tale, Agnes! Besides, I didn't break it! You're the one who let go!"
"I had it first!"
The girls continued to argue with each other when Gru sat up on the couch with Agnes in one arm. He rubbed at the bridge of his nose with his index finger and thumb as Margo walked into the room.
"Uh, dad…the freeze ray is sitting on the floor broken in the lab…I just thought I'd let you know that…" Margo explained calmly as she and two other minions watched her sisters yell at each other.
You should know,
How great things were before you
Gru sighed, placing his chin into the palm of his hand. He thought about how easy things were before he had adopted the girls. Before he became a father. The only person he really had to look out for was himself and himself only. It was something he still wasn't quite used to but now he had three quite troublesome young girls to take care of.
Even so,
They're better still today
Three beautiful, marvelous, sometimes a little too chatty, sometimes a little too quiet, sometimes even downright scary girls. Who absolutely loved him. He adored any time and all the time they spent together. Whether he was teaching Edith how to use a ray gun, playing pretend with Agnes, or simply talking to Margo, there was nothing else he'd rather do. He loved this feeling. He loved them.
I can't think who I was before
At some point, Gru was the best super villain around. He was feared, and in some cases, loved by many people. He may have once cared that Vector was now number one but right now, that didn't matter. It could never matter as long as Margo, Edith, and Agnes were in his life. He didn't know when or how but suddenly being the best father meant so much more to him than being the best villain.
"Girls…" He said calmly, picking Agnes back up and placing her on his lap which for some reason, immediately stopped her from continuing to argue with her sister. He motioned for Margo and Edith to come closer with his other hand. Once they were close enough, he wrapped his arms around all of them, squeezing them tightly but lovingly. "The freeze ray is just a material item. It can be replaced…" They all looked at each other, a bit confused as they were embraced. "Dad, are you alright?" Margo asked.
You ruined everything in the nicest way
"…I just…love you girls."
