Chapter 1

Maka's P.O.V

I stared bleakly at the rain streaked window of my room. It had been almost a month since I tried to run away, but nothing ever seemed to happen. Soul went back to his old self, not giving me a clue, and continued to see that girl, Asami. I avoided him if possible. Ever since he kissed me, then knowing my feelings for him, I could never look him in the eye. It was taking a toll on our partnership. I keep taking private meister lessons with Professor Stien and Justin Law, the death scythe. If this continues, I might choose to go solo, and let Soul find a new meister. The thought put a knot in my chest. I really didn't want to do that, but if I can't fix things, that's what's going to happen. I couldn't change that fact. I sat down on my chair, pulling out my IPod. I popped my ear buds in, letting the music flood my ears. I opened my text book, and started studying, the music forcing unwanted thoughts from my mind.

Soul's P.O.V

I peeked into Makas room, wondering what she was doing. She seemed to be avoiding me lately, and I wanted to confront her on why. I looked at her bent back, ear bud cords stretching towards her ears. Studying. Again. Typical Maka. I closed her door, turning back to the kitchen. I put on a kettle of water, taking down a mug, and placing an English Breakfast teabag in the mug. I tapped my finger impatiently against the granite counter, fidgeting. Maka. Her name made my heart swell. I couldn't explain it. I think I might like her. And I know she likes me back. But I can't do anything about it. I had to sort things out with Asami first. But Asami makes me feel cool and free. No attachments or baggage or history. Not like I have with Maka. But that kiss with Maka. That made my heart start pounding just at the thought of it. I couldn't ignore that. I shook my head in frustration. I didn't know what to do. The tea started whistling. I took it off, filling half the mug with water, putting in two lumps of sugar, and topping it off with milk. Just the way she likes it. I picked it up, carefully making my way to her door. I pushed it open, walking over to her, and placing the mug down. She looked up at me, surprised.

"Soul?"

"I made you tea. I know you like it when you study. I'm going out with Black*Star, ok?" I asked, placing my hand on top of her head. She just nodded, turning back to her studies. I backed out of her room, only glancing back once. Maka. I'm going to make this work, I promise.
