For Elaine who did a wonderful job meeting her goals in round 10 of The Houses Competition! This is a Muggle - Flower Shop - AU.
The smell of flowers wafted out the cracked window and into the street, the pedestrians walking by paying it no mind. Draco Malfoy, however, couldn't help but stop and stare into the little flower shop, entranced by the freshness that differed greatly from the polluted city air. He walked into the shop, pressing open the small glass door, looking up with a smile at the bell overhead - it made a noise when he'd walked in, one more similar to windchimes than the automated sound that went off in his office building. It was a nice change. The flowers decorated almost every surface, save for the floors and some parts of the walls - though he was sure that those blank spots on the wall would soon be covered in ivy just as the other spots had been.
"Can I help you?" asked an airy voice from behind the front desk. His head snapped in that direction, eyes widening slightly and crimson coating his cheeks as he stared at the woman behind the counter. She stood in a sunflower dress, a little straw sunhat sitting on her dirty blonde hair. Her pale features stood in contrast to her silvery-blue eyes. She was honestly breathtaking - in Draco's opinion anyway.
"O-Oh, uhm, of course," he began, finding himself stuttering - something that was quite unlike his normal, confident demeanor. She only smiled, letting out a small, tinkling laugh that sounded like little wind chimes. It suited her, he decided.
"I'm trying to decorate my new apartment, and I'm looking for flowers to help the-" he was surprised when she cut him off, and he looked back towards her hands, where there was a little notebook with a pencil.
"What does it look like?" came her airy voice, curiosity filling her every syllable. It seemed to him like she was actually interested. Draco brought his hand up to rub the back of his neck, it was flushed crimson in embarrassment as he looked down sheepishly. How would he tell her it wasn't done yet, he honestly didn't know, yet he still tried to pull together a sentence that worked well enough.
"When it's done it'll be monochromatic, greys, white, black," she nodded at his statement, and the two only continued talking from there. Draco was entranced by her, the way she spoke, how she moved. Everything about her was new to him, interesting, and absolutely brilliant. Eventually, they'd moved past talking of interior design and flowers, and had ended up scheduling a coffee date. And after that, even more of them. It was honestly hard to tell when they'd first officially decided they were a couple, but it suited them.
- Three Weeks Later -
His new apartment looked fantastic, modern and chic, monochromatic in the color scheme. Yet there was still that occasional pop of color here and there. Mainly shades of blue, from the flowers Luna had given him. It was wonderful. It made him not regret his decision for once, going into that flower shop one of the best things that had ever happened for him. And he'd gotten Luna out of the whole ordeal, despite it being extremely embarrassing on his part. The two sat on Draco's grey couch, watching the television while snuggled up next to each other.
All was well.
