Haruhi Fujioka Suoh walked around the nursery carrying a small bundle. Tamaki had realized what his feelings really were two years ago and had popped the question to Haruhi two months after the truth hit him in the face. She smiled at the memory of the night she got his ring, now nestled next to her slim wedding band. It sparkled in the light coming from the low-light lamps in the room. One shone by her baby's cradle and one on the grand piano where her husband now played, a gentle lulling tune. The little boy woke up to a thunder crash coming from outside and started wailing. Haruhi looked up. A storm's coming, fast too. Tamaki noticed this too. "We can take him to our room, he'll sleep there." "No Tamaki, I have an idea to put our little Akira to sleep. Keep playing that." Tamaki did as she requested and continued his music. Haruhi thought of the way she used to feel about storms and began to sing.
Little
child, be not afraid
though rain pounds harshly against the glass
Like
an unwanted stranger, there is no danger
I'm here tonight
She glanced over at Tamaki who caught her eye and nodded.
Little
child, be not afraid
though thunder explodes and lightning
flash
illuminates, your tear-stained face.
I'm here
tonight
Here Tamaki played a longer series of notes. Akira had stopped crying and now looked up at his mother with round eyes full of innocence and adoration. The way his father looked at her. She smiled and rocked him in her arms.
And
someday you'll know
that nature is so
the same rain that draws
you near me,
falls on rivers and land
on forests and sand
makes
the beautiful world that you'll see
in the morning
Tamaki didn't a signal from her this time; he knew what to play by following the sound of his wife's voice. She knew exactly what to do, what a clever and wonderful wife I have.
little
child, be not afraid
though storm clouds mask your beloved
moon
and its candlelight
beams, still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight
Another thunder crash sounded outside and Akira, almost asleep, woke with a start. Haruhi shushed him and continued to sing
little child, be not
afraid
though wind makes creatures of our trees
and their
branches to hands, they're not real, understand
and I am here
tonight
Haruhi signaled to Tamaki to slow the playing to a few notes. She lowered her voice softly and sang a different verse
for you know, once even
I was a
little child, and I was afraid
but a gentle someone
always came
to dry all my tears, trade sweet sleep for fears
and
to give a kiss goodnight
Faster Tamaki she thought, sending a glance in his direction. Not only to give a signal but because she'd been referring to him in the last verse.
well
now I am grown
and these years have shown
that rain's a part of
how life goes
but it's dark and it's late
so I'll hold you and
wait
'til your frightened eyes do close
and I hope that you'll know
That
nature is so
the same rain that draws you near me,
falls on
rivers and land
on forests and sand
makes the beautiful world
that you'll see
in the morning
Everything's fine in
the morning
the ran will be gone in the morning
but I'll still
be here in the morning
Haruhi held the last note a little longer. Akira squirmed a little in his mother's arms. With a final drowsy yawn he fell into a peaceful sleep. Haruhi placed him gently back in his cradle. Tamaki walked over and placed his slender arms around her neck and rested his head on her shoulder. She smiled at their sleeping child and patted Tamaki's arm. "He'll sleep for the rest of the night now" she said. With a last glance at the sleeping boy the parents walked to their own bedroom for a restful night's sleep
