It had been years, but the nightmares and the fears came as always. For Liesel, Max would sometimes appear in her dreams, next to Mama and Papa. She would wake up to his arms around her and his lips on her face, but she would remain afraid. For Max, he loved Liesel more than anything, but he could not take her pain away, and nor could she take his away. But he could give her words. To a tune, he mused. Something for her to repeat in her head, to comfort her. What better way than to comfort her with words?
Max began to sing, knowing his croaky voice and wavering pitch were no matter to a word shaker. The words poured from his soul.
"Well the sun is surely sinking down, but the moon is slowly rising. So this old world must still be spinning round. And I still love you. So close your eyes. You can close your eyes, it's alright. I don't know no love songs, and I can't sing the blues anymore. But I can sing this song. And you can sing this song, when I'm gone. It won't be long before another day. We gonna have a good time. And no one's gonna take that time away. You can stay as long as you like. So close your eyes. You can close your eyes, it's alright. I don't know no love songs, and I can't sing the blues anymore. But I can sing this song. And you can sing this song, when I'm gone."
