Title: One Day You'll Know
Author: Twinlakeshgrl
Genre: Romance, Drama, Angst
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: E/A Implied
Summary: Ephram's POV in the last scene of "Home." This is just a little one-shot ficlet that I came up with during "Home".
Disclaimer: Don't own Everwood, though I wish I could own Ephram. I can dream, can't I? Also the title is the name of a Heartland book, but I don't mean to imply I own it. Please don't sue.
A/N: I understand that there is controversy over if Colin will die or not. I myself don't really have a stand, and decided to take the approach that Colin will live for the purposes of this fic. If he dies, I still won't take this down, it will simply be AU.
One Day You'll Know
Ephram shifted uncomfortably. He wasn't Colin's friend. He shouldn't be here. At least Edna, the Abbots and the Harts had a reason to be here. It's early in the morning; Colin's surgery should be almost over. Then we'll know. Know if he lived. Know if Dad still is as good a neurosurgeon as everyone thinks.
Amy was here because Colin was her boyfriend. Bright was there because Colin was his best friend. Their parents were there for moral support. The Harts were there because Colin was their son. Edna, well, for moral support for Dr. Brown and everyone.
Ephram was only there for his Dad.
That's right. Ephram was there to support his Dad. They never had a good relationship, but Ephram didn't hate his Dad. He didn't want Dad to have a kid's death on his hands. His Dad couldn't take that. Ephram prayed his Dad was successful, for more reasons than one.
First, if he failed, the whole town would blame them. Second, Amy, the one he loved, couldn't take it if golden-boy died. Ephram didn't want her to be unhappy. Third, Bright would blame him. Bright hated Ephram anyway, why would blaming him for Colin's death be any different? Fourth, Colin would DIE. Fifth, his Dad couldn't take it if he accidentally killed Colin.
Ephram's head snapped up as Dr. Brown entered the room. He surveyed the room. Everyone looked up hopefully. Ephram's blue-green eyes met Dr. Brown's brown eyes. The Dr. dipped his head slightly. Ephram nodded and slumped back. He looked at the ground. The Dr.'s gaze told him everything he needed to know. Colin was alive. He was happy for his Dad.
Amy would be thrilled. She would have coma-boy back. She would forget Ephram and everything would be back to normal. Yes, he loved Amy, even though he knew she had a boyfriend. He loved her. She was everything he wanted. He wanted to repeat that kiss in the coal mine. Everything had been so right. Even though she broke his heart again and again, he stuck by her. He loved her and couldn't deny her anything. Maybe now she didn't know his feelings, his desires. He looked at her. Amy, one day, one day you'll know.

A/N- Hey, just a little angsty E/A piece with all the other characters thrown in for good measure. It just came into my head during "Home" and I know the title is a Heartland book title. I repeat, I do not own it and I am just borrowing it. Don't sue. Review please, constructive criticism is welcome.
