cherry valance is like fire,

blazing across his skin, leaving mad, hollow desire in her wake.

he once thought that socs were ice

- cold and gleaming and oh-so-very-empty

but he's the one who's dead inside, after all

a hurricane lacking a human core.

"you remind me so much of bob,"

she mutters at his pale shoulder

- autumn hair bleeds into torn mattress as he

bites her glossy lip hard enough to bruise.

spoiled rich boy toying with the world in his hands

- they're nothing alike (he wants to think).

a few quick thrusts and he's used her up,

defiled the pretty city girl with filthy fingers and a worse tongue.

she drapes an all too casual arm over his chest,

{they're as sweet as they are suicidal}

- he stares at the water-stained ceiling and tells himself that this is temporary

that he is no more than a conqueror

that this is not love.

(this is how he will remember her

- eyes lowered to blue shards by the tulsa sun,

red stillettos clattering unsteadily across the pavement,

hubris welded with humility.

'i'm on your side.')

(everybody always leaves can't she please stay?)
