A/N: Really short bit of skate fluff set two months after season five's finale.
Sometimes
"You know," Kate began as she and Sawyer sat on the beach, snacking on Dharma pretzels. They were notably stale, but neither party seemed to mind. "She looks like you."
"Who?" Sawyer seemed genuinely puzzled.
"Clementine," Kate stated.
"You saw her?" Sawyer questioned in a near whisper.
"I saw her a lot," Kate replied. "She and Aaron got along. Plus Cass and I are old friends."
Sawyer looked thoughtful. "What's she like?"
"Loud," Kate smiled. "But she has a softness to her, as well. When people she knows are around, she's crazy and rambunctious, but around others she can be very reserved. She's a sweet kid. She's good, James. I really think she's good."
"I'm glad."
"She's really a gorgeous little girl. She had golden hair that falls into these adorable ringlets. And dimples. She has your dimples."
"She sounds beautiful," Sawyer replied softly.
"She is," Kate squeezed his hand. "You would love her."
"Maybe I would," Sawyer decided. "But I could never be her father."
"I think you'd make a pretty good dad, personally."
"Why's that, Freckles?"
"Your capacity to love," Kate replied simply. Upon his confused look, she continued, "You love with your whole heart. You may have a shady past. You may be damaged. But any child of yours would be loved beyond words."
Sawyer shrugged his shoulders. He sighed. "I wish I could meet her. I never used to want to. I wanted nothing to do with her life. I know she'd be better off without me, but…now I'm desperate to meet her. I wish I could."
"Maybe one day," Kate provided. "Maybe one day we'll get off the island."
"Since when did you become the eternal optimist?" Sawyer smirked.
Kate grinned. "I said maybe."
"If we do…if we do, would you go with me to see her?"
"Of course," Kate beamed. "I'll bet she misses Auntie Kate."
"Does she really call you that?" Sawyer questioned.
"Sometimes."
Sawyer's dimples showed in his small but contagious smile.
"Do you really want to get off the island, Sweetcheeks? I've been here for over three years, but you only got back two months ago."
"I only came back for one thing, James."
Sawyer raised an eyebrow. "And what's that?"
Kate smiled inwardly and looked down at her lap. "You."
Sawyer grinned. "I missed you too, Freckles."
He kissed her ever-so-softly on the lips.
"What was that for?" Kate asked with a slight smile.
"Does it really matter?" Sawyer asked. "Sometimes I just wanna kiss you."
The corner's of Kate's lips could not reach any higher as she smiled. "Sometimes I just wanna kiss you, too."
Kate did just that, and the pair headed back to Kate's tent, hand in hand.
Fin.
Hope you enjoyed. :) Let me know what you thought.
