This is my first published story and reviews will be greatly appreciated but please be nice! ;) Exactly one month to go until the season 7 premier...
The aroma of a recently created curry swept through the kitchen and living room of the loft. Detective Kate Beckett, for the time being currently known as plain "Kate Beckett", stood at the stove, gently stirring vegetables into a saucepan.
A tender smile tugged at her lips – a smile her husband had recently come to recognise on her a lot recently. The former detective was dressed in her husband's baggy hoody and a pair of dark leggings with her long hair running down her back.
It was moments like this that Kate savoured the precious sound of silence. She would shut her eyes, take a deep breath, release her emotions and would replace it with a bright, beaming smile. A lot had changed in the last few months but Kate wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
All too soon, the silence was shattered, and the front door swung open. Richard Castle stepped in with a young baby draped across his chest.
"We're home!" he called to his wife.
He pulled the push chair in behind him and let the stack of diaper bags he'd had in his arms drop to the floor.
A light gurgle escaped from the young baby's lips as Castle lightly skipped over to the kitchen where he greeted Kate with a passionate kiss from behind.
"Mmm, something smells good!"
Kate turned around with a beaming smile devoured across her face.
"How's my little boy doing, hey? Did Daddy take care of you today? Did you have a fun boys' day out?"
Upon hearing the gentle tone of his mother, the boy wriggled from Castle's grip and into the peaceful arms of Kate.
She embraced her son fervently and kissed his forehead lightly. Castle stood back and leant against the pole. He could watch his wife and son forever. He treasured moments like this. She had wanted a child for so long and at times he found himself wondering how they'd ever come this far.
He gazed at the saucepan bubbling on the stove and the satisfying smells that were escaping from it. He stared at the dozens of baby toys scattered along the floor. And he watched his beautiful wife engage with his beautiful son. He watched both their stunning smiles and twinkling eyes as they interacted in a game of tickles.
It had been a tough and tricky journey for them, Castle thought as he joined his family.
But it had been worth it completely.
