Don't Rain on My Parade

So I was bored and this popped into my head. Don't hate me. Spoilers for up to Series 4 Episode 4 "The Break Up". Read at your own risk. I don't like the ending, or the beginning, or any of it...

"Finn, I have prepared a song that I would like to sing." Stated Marley. Finn smiled slightly, that reminded him of his girlfriend... ex-girlfriend. His smile dropped when he remembered their break up, only a few days before.

"OK Marley, start whenever you're ready." He said trying to force a smile. Nobody fell for it, Sam looked worried about the man he had started to think of as an older brother.

As soon as Brad had played the first few notes on the piano, the seniors of the glee club looked a mixture of shock and confusion. Artie started fiddling with the wheels of his chair, Tina looked around, locking eyes with Blaine. Sam stared at Finn, wondering what his reaction would be. Brittany just looked completely oblivious to what was going on.

Finn could hear Rachel singing it. He had a flash back to their first sectionals when Rachel had sang it, back when he hadn't even chosen between her and Quinn. Now the song sounded much more accusing. Like it was aimed at him. He flinched. He couldn't listen to this. Echoing in his ears was Rachel, saying he didn't support her, that he wasn't good enough for her, that she didn't love him. Finn jerked up from his chair, knocking it over in the process. If Puck was here, he would have laughed. Knocking over chairs seemed to be his thing. Finns smile turned out a little half hearted and he hurried out of the room.

"Get ready for me, love,
'cause I'm a comer,
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!"

Marley frowned as she finished her performance. "Was it really that bad?"

The seniors shifted uncomfortably in their seats, wondering if they should tell her. The other members of the glee club were offering Marley reassurance that it was brilliant. One voice could be heard above the noise, Brittany. "Don't worry Marley, that was just kinda Rachels song, and Finchel broke up last week and that's sad because Finchel is like unicorns."

The rest of glee club stared at Brittany awkwardly, as if trying to work out something appropriate to say. The bell rang at that moment, so they hurried out of the choir room relieved. In the chaos of the Mckinley High hallways, nobody noticed the figure hunched up against the wall, trying desperately to get that song out of his head.
