My first story, a rewrite of the Season 2 episode "Edward's Exploit" I didn't like the ending, so I changed it. Enjoy and make sure to comment.

Bertie the Bus was giving some visitors a tour of the Island of Sodor. It was their last afternoon, and Edward was preparing to take them to meet Bill and Ben. He found it hard to start the heavy train.

"Did you see him straining?" asked Henry.

"Painful!" remarked James.

"Pathetic!" grunted Gordon. "He should be retired and preserved in a museum before it's too late!"

"SHUT UP!" yelled Duck. "You're embarrassing him! Edward's better than any off you!"

The other engines became very cross, but turned shocked when Edward finally managed to start.

"I've done it! We're off!" said Edward as he finally puffed out of the station.

Bill and Ben were delighted to see the visitors, and loved being photographed. Later, they took the visitors to the China Clay Works in a brake van special.

At the China Clay Works, the visitors learned all about china clay and how it was made, and then how it was transported to Brendam Docks by no other than Bill and Ben. Everyone had a splendid time and the visitors were most impressed.

Then it was time for Edward to take the visitors home. Everyone said goodbye to Bill and Ben, and then boarded Edward's coaches. They were soon on their way.

But soon, the weather changed. A thunderstorm, complete with heavy winds occurred, and Edward began to feel feeble. His sanding gear fails, and his fireman rode in front, dropping sand on the rails by hand. Suddenly, Edward's wheels slipped fiercely, and with a shrieking crack, something broke!

The crew inspected the damage. It was severe, and repairs took a very long time.

"One of your crank pins broke Edward!" said his driver. "We've taken your side rods off. Now you look like a old-fashioned engine. Can you take these people home? They must get home tonight."

"I'll try." promised Edward

The passengers were cross. They needed to get back to the station on time, and it looked like that they wouldn't make it on time.

Edward puffed and pulled his hardest, but his wheels kept slipping and he could not start the heavy train.

The driver, fireman and conductor went along the train, making adjustments between the coaches.

"We've loosened the couplings Edward. Now you can pick up your coaches one by one, just as you do with freight cars."
"That will be much better." said Edward.

He puffed and moved cautiously forward. The first coach helped the second coach to start, and the second coach helped the third coach to start.

"I've done it hooray! I've done it hooray!" puffed Edward.

"Steady boy!" warned his driver.

Edward forged slowly but surely ahead.

At last Edward arrived, battered, but unbeaten at the station. Henry was waiting for the visitors with the special train that would take the visitors home.

"Peep peep!" whistled Edward.

The passengers cheered and thanked Edward, his driver and fireman.

Sir Topham Hatt angrily pointed at the clock.

"Eight o'clock! You're one hour late Edward!" he yelled. "What took you so long?

"I'm sorry sir." muttered Edward sadly. "One of my crank pins broke and now I look like a old fashioned-engine"

"Indeed." said Sir Topham Hatt. "I'm sending you to the works so that you can look like a new engine again. I hope that you've learned your lesson Edward."

"Yes sir!" said Edward

That night, Gordon and Duck helped Edward back to the shed. Out of respect for Edward, everyone remained silent.
