The blood seeped through her shirt. She gasped for breath, but only coughed up more of the teal colored blood. Karkat laid her down and tried his best to make the bleeding stop. When he couldn't stop the flood of teal spreading slowly around the girl, he began to sob bright red tears.

"Karkat. Karkat stop. Please." he tried to dry his eyes and looked at Terezi through blurred eyes.

"It's okay," she said weakly. "There's no need to cry. Don't be such a human." she joked feebly.

"Don't do this." Karkat's throat was tight as he tried to hold back more sobs, "Don't leave, you can't die, this can't be it." more tears escaped, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I was a jerk to you. I know it seemed like I never respected you, but the truth is I respected you more than anyone else in the world. You were so much smarter than me, you always knew what to do, and you knew how to keep us all together. You were always the true leader. I was always fooling myself. I even fooled myself into putting us in the wrong quadrant." He looked down, clenching his fists.

"Karkat." Terezi struggled to say his name, "Wh-what you saying?"

"I always thought our quadrant would be as black as it could get. It wasn't unless recently that I realized what an idiot I was. I've been longing for red all along. As red as my blood, even more so. Please Terezi, if you go. Can you do one thing for me? Can you kiss me?"

Terezi was silent for a moment. Between the two all that could be heard was her labored breathing.

"I'll tell you what." she said at last. "Just because I'm dying and you pronounce your undying love for me doesn't mean that I'll take it easy on you. So, I'll flip a coin. Head is yes. The scratch side is no." She grabbed the coin out of her pocket and held it between her thumb and index finger, showing it to Karkat. She tossed the coin in the air with her remaining strength and waited for it to come back down. Just before it returned to her hand, Karkat caught it.

Terezi frowned, "Where did it go? Karkat?"

"You forgot something." He smiled grimly. "The faces of the coin can't matter to you. Your blind. Therefore, I made the decision for you." He leaned in and kissed her softly, letting the world fade away around them.

They pulled away, and Terezi fell limp. With her last breath, she whispered, "I love you…" and then she was gone.

Karkat no longer held in his tears. He bent over her and the teal stained floor turned a deep shade of purple.
