MPP #66 – Minor to Major

It was such a small thing that started it. So small that he hadn't noticed it at the time. An emphasis on a particular word. The twisting of a certain event to show it in a different light. A subtle suggestion that was given in such a way that it seemed like his own idea.

By the time he realised what was happening it was too late. He was intrigued by this new world view. His old dreams and ambitions – indeed, his old friends – seemed childish and so far away. His eyes had been opened to the world of power and success and he was never turning back. He knew he was destined for greatness and he wasn't going to settle for second best. He may have been brought into it with trickery and without his knowledge, but he chose to stay for the glory.

Less flashy than his master, he pursued his goal with determination and dedication. Their goals intertwined, but their methods - and desires – were different. The icy impatience of his master was replaced with his calculating schemes. His master operated in the shadows created by his flashy personality, but he favoured a direct confrontation – the true test of his skill. Foiled in one move, he was content to bide his time. Small steps were the building blocks of success – and success was the only permissible outcome. His pride would not let him suffer the humiliation of defeat.

One day the pretence would be cast aside and supremacy would be theirs.
