STRAIGHT TEQUILA NIGHT
AUTHOR'S NOTE/DICLAIMER
Came about from the ep "A Little Devil Complex" and Platt's prank on Burgess and the reaction to it. Resides in the same reality as "Asking A Favor" and "Needing A Drink". Belongs to Dick Wolf and NBC. I only own the plot.
Platt had lied to her. Damn, she was such an idiot! Why had she thought that Platt would tell her the truth? The older woman was always busting her balls, so why had she thought that she would start being straight with her now. Damn, she just needed a drink. Without a word, Kim Burgess entered Cal's and went straight to the counter, where the owner and bartender, Ryan Callaghan was.
"Hey Kimmie, what can I get ya?" he queried.
"Tequila, straight," she responded and the older man winced as he went to get the drink. That was bad. Straight Tequila meant that she was pissed and not in the mood to talk. When the drink was brought out, she grabbed the bottle and started drinking it, barely pausing to take a breath. Oh, that's really bad, Ryan thought. It took a lot for Kim to get this way and when it did, there was usually no reasoning with her.
"What happened?" he questioned, making himself comfortable as she finally paused her drinking to take a much needed breath.
"I am such an idiot! I should've known she was just screwing with me!" she shouted.
"Who?" he prodded. Someone had upset her, that was obvious. And there weren't a lot of females at District 21. It was just Kim, the desk sergeant, Platt, and a new worker, a Nadia, if he was remembering what Kim had told him, correctly.
"Platt!"
"What happened?" he wondered.
"She was acting weird today, being all happy and giving us what we asked for and stuff, which kind of freaked us out," she answered.
"Yeah, I can see why," he chuckled. From what she had told him, Sergeant Platt was a bit of a hard ass.
"Well, after a while, she tells me that she's being monitored by a different department because of her lack of people skills, so I go to this guy in a suit, and I stuck up for her. Then I find out that he was a reporter and he wrote what I said in a newspaper," she answered.
"Oh damn," Ryan muttered. Platt had played on her trust. Kim didn't something like that lightly.
"That bitch lied to me! She played me for a damn fool! I am such a freakin' idiot!" she shouted, her fingers tightening around the bottle.
"No, Kimmie. You're not. Don't say that," he responded.
"Everyone lies! Everyone! Except you guys! You've never lied to me! But everyone else always does!" she exclaimed. The man blew out a breath, but didn't say anything. There was nothing that he could say. Kim didn't like it when people lied to her, preferring them to be truthful. And unfortunately, someone she had looked up to had crushed her. He just hoped that this didn't send his friend spiraling because he wasn't sure if he or Mikey would be able to handle that. But one thing was for certain, he'd do anything he could to be there for her, even if it meant enduring another Straight Tequila night…
