It was … dark. Yeah, that's a good word. Dark. Or empty? It haven't decided yet, wait, that's not right. I, I haven't decided yet. Yes. I. Anyway, darkness. Something touched me. What touched me?! It's too dark, too dark to see. My eyes, my eyes are closed, that's why I can't sight. No, that's wrong too. See. That's it. I can't see. I open my eyes to a great gaping nothing. Nothing but darkness, and … white? How can there be white? It moved, how did it move?! I flinched away from it but it followed me as I spun in the darkness. I stared at it as I thrashed about in the inky pools of pure nothing. Then I realised something. It was attached to me. I can move it. I looked around, trying to see what else I could move. Why? Why was I spinning?! I just want to see the rest of my...body? I thought of a way to see myself but I don't know how. How to make it appear? But as I wondered a glow lit up the blackness. A mirror of fog grew before me and I saw. I saw myself, and my eyes. My golden eyes. Magic. I didn't know where the word came from but it felt, right. I had an idea, a big idea, which stemmed from a small flame dancing in my palm. I willed it bigger and bigger until …
BANG! My bedroom door slammed open and Arthur's angry shout echoed through my tiny room "MERlin! Get your lazy arse out of bed this instant!"
I growled and rolled over, thinking about how I created the world. The planets. The sun. I created life. Yet here I am. A slave to a prince of an insignificant little Kingdom on a soggy piece of rock on an even soggier planet that I created! It wasn't until I dragged myself out of bed till I remembered something. I may be a god, but here, I learned how to be human.
A grin on my face, I sauntered past Arthur and down the stairs into the main chamber.
"Are you coming Arthur?" I asked as I opened the door
He just threw up his arms and pushed past me out the door.
"And pack your things! We're going hunting." he shouted after him.
Yep, this is what it is to be human.
