"How was school today guys?" Jackie asked Jasmine and Houston as the family was having dinner one night.
"Good, we were really good today so Miss Pauley gave us extra recess time." Houston said happily.
"That's good, I bet you liked that huh bud?" Jackie asked.
"Yeah." Houston replied.
"Jasmine, how about you, did you have a good day?" Jackie asked the little girl.
"No." Jasmine said.
"Why not sweetheart?" Jackie asked.
"Because I got one wrong on my spelling test."
"Well sweetie, that's ok, getting only one wrong is very good." Jackie told her.
"But I practiced them."
"I know, and that's all that matters to me, you tried your very best and I'm very proud of you for that." Jackie assured her with a smile.
Jasmine smiled back, maybe getting one wrong wasn't so bad.
"Which word did you miss, do you remember?" Jackie asked.
"No."
"Did you bring your test home?"
"Yeah."
"Ok, go get it so mommy and daddy can see it." Jackie told her.
Jasmine hurriedly went over to her backpack and pulled out her test and then she brought it to Jackie.
Jackie looked over the test and her eyes searched until she found the one word circled in red which indicated that it was incorrect.
Jackie's eyes got wide at what she saw.
"Yes Jazz, you did a great job kiddo." Jackie assured her.
Jasmine beamed at the praise.
"Are you guys all done eating?" Jackie asked all the kids.
"Yeah." They responded.
"Ok, you can go play for a little bit and then it'll be bath time." She told them.
The kids all happily went to play.
She waited until they were out of ear shot before she turned to Nick.
"Look at Jasmine's test." Jackie told him as she struggled mightily to not laugh.
Nick looked at Jackie curiously and then looked at the paper in his hands.
Jackie watched his facial expression, as soon as he saw what Jasmine's mistake had been his eyes got wide as well and then he burst out laughing.
The sweet little girl had misspelled the word where, instead of spelling it w-h-e-r-e like it should have been Jasmine had spelled it w-h-o-r-e.
Before long tears were streaming down both Nick and Jackie's faces they were laughing so hard.
Miss Masters (Jasmine's teacher) had written not quite next to the word and then she'd drawn a cute smiley face which made Nick and Jackie laugh even harder.
"I love that kid." Nick declared as he struggled to breathe.
Jackie nodded in agreement, not able to speak.
"I'm sure she didn't do it to be naughty, she just made an innocent mistake, a very unfortunate, yet funny mistake." Nick said before bursting into another round of laughter.
"Well of course it was just an innocent mistake, she doesn't know what that word means, she just wrote it the way she thought it was spelled."
"I would have loved to see the look on Miss Masters' face when she was correcting that though." Nick said.
"Me too." Jackie agreed before both of them burst out laughing once again.
"We have to keep that spelling test and show it to her when she is old enough to know what that word means." Nick told Jackie.
"We should, that is priceless." Jackie responded.
"When you are a parent is there ever a dull moment?" Nick asked her as he wiped the tears off of his face.
"No, especially with Jasmine around."
Nick chuckled, and he had to agree with Jackie on that one!
The End!
