Disclaimer: I do not own Fruits Basket. I have way too much respect for Takaya-sensei to try to make money off of her stuff. But if she felt like illustrating this little scene sometime, I would be deeply honored.
Once upon a snowy moonlit evening, Shigure gazed out of his office window. To him, it was the perfect setting for a novelist to produce the nation's next bestseller. But he'd just sent the next four chapters to his editor (after torturing her sufficiently, of course), and his mischievous nature prompted him to instead turn his attention to tormenting the other residents of his home.
Upon finding Yuki studying alone in his room, he pronounced his cousin "Boooring!" and sneaked down the stairs to see what he could see.
He peeked into the kitchen, where he expected to find Tohru, and hoped with a few choice phrases to bring Kyo's jealous wrath upon himself. Kyo's wrath should have been more worrisome to Shigure, but since it was always soothed away by one of Tohru's cute little smiles, he proceeded confidently.
Instead of finding her alone and immediately begging for her hand in marriage as he had schemed on his way down the stairs, he found Kyo speaking to her instead. She was, unsurprisingly, giving him food. Shigure briefly considered stepping in and whining about how Tohru always spoiled Kyo and never made anything special for him when he saw Kyo do something strange.
He didn't take the plate and turn a way with a grumbled "thank you." He didn't bark at her for assuming that he'd take advantage of her kindness. He didn't even eat it himself.
He picked up the first tuna onigiri and wordlessly held it out so that Tohru could have a bite. She looked as surprised as Shigure was, and leaned forward to take it from him. Their hands touched when she realized he was going to hold it for her while she tasted it, and both of them blushed. Tohru accepted a bite, and still blushing, thanked Kyo. In response, he stepped forward to brush away a grain of rice that had gotten on her face.
Shigure shuffled back up the stairs to annoy Yuki. "Let it never be said that Sohma Shigure turns away from an opportunity to do mischief," he said to himself. "But it was just too adorable in there for me."
