Flashback

The Brotherhood of Steel recon team had been on the move for three hours. Their original goal had been to secure a reflux capacitor from a raider camp. Unfortunately, everything had gone wrong. At first, everything had gone to plan, Paladin Merssion had lead his team into the raider camp, opening fire as the poorly equipped raiders had tried to stop them. Knight Jason and Field Scribe Eric had been a mere 20 meters from the crate that had the capacitor sitting on it when disaster struck.

A large group of super mutants had charged the recon team from behind, shouting and firing mini guns and automatic rifles. The Paladin and two of the knights had turned to retaliate, bullets ricocheting off their power armor. As the main group turned, more super mutants clamored over the low barricade in front of Jason and Eric, and attacked with sledgehammers and rifles. Eric, without a suit of power armor, was killed almost instantly by a bullet to the side of his head. Jason turned and fought back, spinning up his gatling laser and mowing down the attacking mutants, but his resistance was futile. A super mutant skirmisher scooped up the capacitor and bolted, shouting to his brothers; "I got it! Hold them off!", before disappearing into the trees. The other super mutants redoubled their attack, holding the recon team back for a few more precious minutes, before dashing away into the trees after their brother.

Paladin Merssion called out over the explosion as one of the fleeing super mutants shot a gas canister sitting against a wall. "After them! We need that reflux capacitor!", before sprinting after the enemy, his power armor clanking as he ran. After a moment of indecision, the brotherhood recon team had dashed after their paladin, and into the trees.

Gunfire burst in the air and the super mutant scout howled in pain as Knight Jason caught up to it on the narrow trail, before slamming his shoulder roughly into the abomination, shoving it to the ground. Paladin Merisson called out to his subordinate as he approached; "Jason! Kill that thing". Jason grimaced as he pulled the helmet off his power armor, "As much as I'd love to exterminate this scum here and now, Paladin, he might have answers for us." Jason called back. "Fine. Question him, Knight."

Jason turned back to the super mutant pinned on the ground. "What do you want with the reflux capacitor, mutant scum?", Jason shouted. The super mutant responded with just as much contempt as he had been addressed with; "I not telling you anything human.", he spat. Jason pressed the tip of his automatic laser rifle to the back of his captive's head. "I am only going to ask you one more time you bastard. What do you want with the reflux capacitor!". Once again the mutant responded the same way; "I not telling anything to you, human.", Jason responded angrily, "Then I have no more use for you." He squeezed the trigger of his rifle, and the super mutant cried out as the shot tore through his head. The recon team hefted their weapons as the shot continued to echo through the trees, and continued down the narrow path, following the tracks of their foe.
