Forever One
"So... we're officially married."
Wally kissed his bride again.
"You look beautiful..."
Eleanor giggled as they hugged. "Thank you... You look good yourself."
They were waiting on the carriage to come around back. The whole day felt surreal, though it was a surreal delight. She finally had some alone time with her groom.
"So, how does it feel to be married to me?" Eleanor asked, still holding on to each other.
"Well, it's only been about ten minutes, but I say it's going pretty awesome."
She rested her head on his shoulder, feeling a warm smile on her face.
"Are you sure you want all this?" she asked. "The formalities, the protocol, not to mention all the paper work... We're not going to be a normal couple."
"Babe, since when has anything been normal for us? We've been though so much together, and I want this with you. If that means wearing a monkey suit everyday and learning a new language, I'll do that. You're all I need..."
A tear drop rolled off her cheek.
She kisses her groom one more time. "Thank you... for not giving up on me."
"Babe, on this day, I promise you... I'll never let you go."
"Grandpa, could we go, I'm tired...!"
The old prince opened his eyes, the sun dipping into the horizon. He turned down to look at his grandson.
"Of course, Cedr, just let me set out these flowers for grandma..."
Once he placed the bouquet on the burial, he closed his eyes again. So many years have passed... From graduating college, to finally moving in together, to their wedding; to Eleanor's coordination, then their twin children, Nila and Roscoe, otherwise known as Ni'vee and Ro'nin to their people. They experienced being grandparents... Then Eleanor's health began to fail.
Her time came, then the crown came to Ro'nin.
Not a day goes by that Wally didn't think of Eleanor. Who would have thought that he would be spending the rest of his life with her when they first met on Mount Justice. She was his best friend and life partner. She knew all of him and he knew all of her. He'd walk through fire and water for her. If she had asked him to go through it all again... he wouldn't even hesitate on his answer.
"Thank you, babe..." his voice began to crack, tears in his eyes. "For giving me the time of my life. Thank you... for the wonderful adventure. I love you..."
"Your highness," a voice called from behind him. It was one of the royal messengers. "Your son, King Ro'nin has asked to see you."
Even though he had a royal title with marriage, Wally could never get used to being called a 'royal highness'.
"Tell him I'll be there... thank you for letting me know."
He called for his grandson to come with him. "Come, Cedr...! Let's go see daddy..."
