A/N: This is for the Dictionary Divine Challenge on HPFC. My words were 1. luminary, 2. billet-doux and 3. daedal. This is only a prolouge and will remain a drabble until I update multiple stories.
Midnight wanderings were one of Severus Snape's favorite pastimes; he just loved the silence of the castle and being able to hear his own thoughts without being stuck in the confines of his rooms. Severus did not roam through the halls just to catch students out of bed as many thought.
This night his thoughts focused on one of his most brilliant, yet most obnoxious students, Hermione Granger. He was not, in fact, in love with her as so many of you dunderheads would like to believe, he was not working on a way to confess his love to her, through letter or some other method. Rather, he was thinking of how she would make a great potion's assistant if she could ever stop correcting any error with a reference from some book or another.
She may be brilliant, but she also had one fault that stopped her from reaching her full capacity of thinking; she only counted on her books and would not accept any thought outside of the realm of the library. He would change that by challenging the reach of her intellectual capacity with sarcasm and wit; both meant to disarm, not harm.
She would need to learn how to harness her creative energy to invent the newest potions or create an antidote for poisons. She would need to be able to use her full brainpower to find a way through the intricacy of potions.
Yes, Severus would offer her the position within the next few days and he would challenge her in a new way.
