The light tapping of my heels echoed through the empty hallway. I liked the quiet, but it so rarely was. I passed Gianna at her desk. She smiled and greeted me in the friendliest way possible, but I had no time for her. She was a human. An idiotic human, if you ask me. Who in their right mind would feel safe working around the most powerful vampires in history?. I don't mean to sound conceited, but that is what we are. The Volturi. A collection of the Worlds greatest vampires.
I knocked lightly on the mahogany door of my master, Aro's chamber. I waited in silence until the door slowly opened, with Aro peeking his head around.
" Are you alone?" Aro whispered
"Yes Master"
Aro let me in and locked the door.
"I missed you my sweet" Aro said as he eyed me up and down
"And I you"
Aro stepped towards me and gently pushed the lace fabric of my shall off of my shoulders exposing a little more of my neck. Aro traced his pointer finger over my bottom lip.
"So beautiful" Aro murmured
He began to caress and kiss my neck. I shivered at his touch.
"I am so glad I saved you" he said against my bare neck
I remember the night I changed so vividly. Especially the pain. It was like a fire burning through my veins, replacing my blood with the venom. But the death I was suffering would have been so much worse. I died in 1701, on the first of May in Venice. I was suffering the terrible Black Plague. The disease had claimed my family and my baby daughter, Isabella. I had nothing to live for, so I gave up hope. I was ready to die, to be with my family, to be with my daughter again, then a smiling man walked into the shelter where I was staying. He was very pale, at the time this seemed to be important. He was the most beautiful man I had even seen. Every feature was perfect, his nose was evenly proportioned, his eyes sparkling and his teeth were extremely white. He took my hand and kissed it. He was cold, very cold.
"My dear, to take away such a life. You have so much potential." He whispered strange, muddled things to me, and told me that everything would be alright. I thought he was a doctor at first, but then I remembered the stories my mother told me, il vampiri ,the vampires. Fear raked through me, I wanted to run but I was too weak, I tried to scream, but nothing came out. The man kissed my forehead, before moving his lips to my neck. He planted one kiss before I felt a sharp pain, like I was being stabbed multiple times in the neck. Then the fire started, I screamed for hours. I only stopped screaming when the man ran with me in his arms. I had no idea where he was taking me, but I was in too much pain to struggle.
I felt my eyes become hooded as Aro continued to kiss my neck.
"Amore mio" Aro whispered the words "My love"
We came to a sharp stop when we heard heavy footsteps in the corridor. I picked up my shall and wrapped it around my shoulders. Aro opened the door to find Felix, one of the Volturi guards outside.
"Master" Felix acknowledged as he passed
Aro closed the door and came towards me.
"No, I must go" I put my hand up to stop Aro coming any further
Aro stared at me for a moment.
"Yes. Alright. I want to see you tonight though" he said, it wasn't a suggestion, it was an order
I nodded and left.
"Laverna?" a voice called
Caius walked towards me, he was eyeing me up and down, a slight smile playing on his lips
"Yes Master?" I asked
"How are you feeling?"
"I am very well, thank you Master"
"How many times do I have to say Laverna, call me Caius"
"Yes, sorry….Caius"
Caius laughed, a loud overly confident laugh."That's better. I will see you later, Heidi is bringing back a special treat tonight" Caius said as he rubbed his hands together and licked his lips.
