Damned for all Eternity

Disclaimer: don't own.

A/N: like every time, I was only able to post this thanks to Celesma, my wonderful beta~

"Damned for all eternity."

He said it with a dark grin, eyes to the white-washed ceiling. It was early, and Vash had to blink against the first light (and the cigarette smoke) when he turned his head to stare incredulously at the priest beside him.

"...where the hell did that come from?"

No reaction. He thought for a moment.

"You mean you're damned because of – " He waved his hand between them back and forth. "It's a tiny bit late for that, you know. I mean, as a priest – "

But Wolfwood only grinned wider.

"I don't give a damn what He thinks about my sex life."

Vash was confused, then suddenly felt like sulking. Wolfwood and his cryptic devil-nonsense.

Finally, the priest turned his head towards him, a small grin still playing around his lips, his eyes as dark and unreadable as ever.

"I just like the sound of it. Forget about it, Tongari."

And he got up. And Vash forgot about it – or rather, chose not to see.

Just like he chose not to see that Wolfwood was too fast, too strong (but still felt weak), that he knew too much, that he felt restless and guilty. That he was one day going to leave without a word.

But even now, when it is too late, Vash refuses to believe that Wolfwood is damned for all eternity (he doesn't like the sound of it, never has) – he's believed in eternity once, but he figures his belief died in the sands and crumbled to dust.
