COMPARISON.Brother, little brother, if you can hear me, things out here aren't too good. But soon you'll have to come out. You've made mama very sick. I want to ask you a favor for when you come out, just one: don't hurt her. You'll meet her, she's very pretty, even though sometimes she's sad for many days at a time. You'll see when she smiles, you'll love her.
Listen, if you do what I say, I'll make you a promise, I'll take you to my kingdom, and I'll make you a prince. I promise you, a prince.
She saw he brother running by the field and once more couldn't avoid thinking in that other world she had been part of. There wasn't much to miss, the sun, the sky, the green fields, the gray days, Mercedes and the brother she barely met, but over all things she missed her other mother, the real one. She felt someone sitting at her side, putting a hand over her leg, and without raising her head knew it was the Queen, "What are you thinking, Moanna?" she asked, and she was able to heard the smile in her voice.
Moanna, that was her name now, Ofelia had lost its meaning. "My mother." She told her the truth and saw the Queen nodding. Ofelia didn't hide her affection for what had been her past, although the last weeks were cruel. She knew that her mother unintentionally had taken bad decisions; it wasn't an egoistical act because she had told her she neither liked their situation, and with the months that had gone by Ofelia came to respect what her mother did for their well being. She had been a good mother; she had taken care of her, adored her, and tried to give her the best she could. She had been a weak woman and couldn't blame her entirely for what had happened.
She smiled to the Queen. She couldn't deny that the resemblance between them had helped her adapting to the Underground Realm, since the beginning she had felt appeased and loved. It seemed like things had just changed, not disappeared. Her hugs and fondness had felt like they always did and Ofelia welcomed them, although at the same time knew that this woman was some kind of substitute, like Mercedes would have been if the chance had presented itself.
Would her two brothers have had the same resemblance? Did her two fathers have the same resemblance? She couldn't say, with one she didn't have the chance to meet him in that form, and the other she barely remembered him from the time she lived with her mother and him.
She stared to the Queen's black eyes and grasped a lock of her blond hair, not brown, the same look that her mother gave her was there, the same feelings, but it wasn't her. But this woman was good and kind, she gave her everything she asked for and Ofelia was grateful for that, "I love you." She said, imagining her hair turning brown.
The Queen kissed her head and answered her words of affection while Ofelia closed her eyes. She also loved this woman but in a different way, and knew that with time that affection was going to change as it had been doing it in the past months. A part of her also knew that this was her way of grasp that human world, "I love you" too. She said to the queen, also wishing to remember her past as Moanna.
