He has always presumed love would bring him down, hold him back. That all those chemicals rushing through his blood stream would be an unwelcome distraction.
Emotions would flood him, turning him from his exceptional self into another hormonally challenged human.
He sighs for the absence of a case. Pines after the chase. Sherlock Holmes does not yearn for the intimacies and privileges of a relationship.
Then the wonderfully unsuspecting Molly Hooper helps save his life. Finally he can see all he previously deduced in blindingly beautiful clarity.
The more of love Sherlock understands, the more alone he feels, becomes.
